John McTiernan's The 13th Warrior (1999) has received a preliminary release date: October 8.

And the DVD was done by Concorde in Germany, so that bodes well with it being Region Free.

You weren't kidding about the forced subtitles! I wish I'd seen this thread before importing it.

I seem to have a choice between watching in German or watching in English with German subtitles. If I try to turn off the subtitles manually, when English audio is selected, it says prohibited by disc.

I had none of this nonsense, when I imported the German blu-ray of Dances with Wolves! Why on Earth can't the user decide which audio/subtitle options to choose?

This is so stupid. I hope I can find a way round this or they will let me send it back.

I got this as well. I was hoping that the Oppo BDP-83 would be able to move the subtitles off screen, but sadly, that was not the case. It can shift them down a bit, but the amount of movement is limited. Beyond that, the transfer is okay, not great. Noticeable EE.

The 13th Warrior was a great movie to me. I know some things, like Banderas learning a new language so fast are not plausible but the overall story and acting were great!
I am going to pick up the Blu-Ray soonest.

As I'm looking to import this to the USA for my region free player, I was wondering if anyone has seen BOTH the German and the French versions ?

Wondering if there is any difference on picture quality. There is a review of the French version, and it does not have forced subs like the German does, but the French version is about 11 Euros more expensive.

Well, I just tried to order The 13th Warrior and Open Ranger from Amazon.DE and it would not let me buy The 13th Warrior

I'm in the USA and have no idea on why I can't. No problem getting Open Range, but no luck for The 13th Warrior. Anybody have any ideas ?

Both are German versions by the way if that helps any. I know Grooves, Inc. sells it, but it's about $10.00 more from them.

I would be careful with this disc. I don't have it to confirm, but a member has noted in the disc's profile that it has imposed German subs.

Yes, it has forced German subs, but it's quite a bit cheaper than the French version. AQ & PQ are supposed to be about the same.
With my player (Oppo BDP-83) the subtitles can be moved down and very little will be seen.

That's odd, I didn't have a bit of trouble with it. I order from amazon uk/de/fr all the time without issues. Did any error messages come up?

Slightly off topic, I just now installed the region free hardware mod for the BDP-83 that I bought from ebay at least 2 years ago. Worked like a charm

I've ordered 3-4 times with Amazon.DE and have no idea on why. The title is in stock. All I get is a message saying it can't be shipped, but Open Range can. So it must have something to do with the actual blu of The 13th Warrior.

Just out of curosity, if someone here in the USA, could try and order The 13th Warrior through Amazon.DE, and go almost all the way to check out and see if it will let you order it. Then post back here. I'd greatly appreciate it.

Well folks, a little update on my slight problem ordering The 13th Warrior from Amazon.DE. First off, as the previous poster asked whether it was from Amazon, and I went back to double check, and it was.

So today after I got home, I went to Amazon.DE using Firefox, and not IE as I had previously done a few days ago, and all the other times I've ordered from them. It worked

So, I don't know if it was a fluke the other day, even though I tried three times, or if Firefox did the trick. Who knows, but at least it's ordered along with the German version of Open Range

PS.....thanks to those that gave their suggestions, either here or through a pm.
