I found this to be a mixed bag, but worth watching
Pros: it’s well-directed, well acted, and the characters are believable Cons: this is very familiar territory for most viewers; how many times have we seen gritty films about crooks and crooked cops? Also the story could have been told in 100 minutes, max. |

I saw three movies this weekend and enjoyed this the most. Ana Sophia Heger does a really good job, especially considering how old she is. It was nice seeing Taron Egerton in a different character role than I'm used to. The story is pretty bleak and may be a tad longer than necessary. 7/10 and worth seeing theatrically if you get the chance.

This was quite good! Well acted, great soundtrack/score, and had me on the edge of my seat throughout. It really had a lot of heart where it counted.
The only thing I'd say though is that the bigger that it got (when you invited more characters than the two leads, specifically in the denouement), the less interesting it got. Its uniqueness is what made it stand out the most, and straying away from that, although important for the story, added some unwanted genericism to it. Since it was a blind viewing, I am saddened to not have detected who our leading male actor was (Egerton). I knew he looked familiar, and just couldn't place his name. There was a photo we see him with longer hair, and if I looked at that longer I would've connected it with his recent role in Carry-On. But man, he is far removed from the young lass we saw in the Kingsman films. Dude is absolutely yoked. By the way, add this movie and The Naked Gun as yet two more modern day releases to have Korean characters with the last name Park. |
