Synopsis
"... My Bloody Valentine stands up with Black Christmas as the best Canada has to offer in the oft-slighted slasher horror subgenre." – Canuxploitation.com

On Valentine's Day, someone always loses their heart. Twenty years ago, this small town lost more than that. When supervisors abandoned their posts to attend the town's annual holiday dance, a tragedy claimed the lives of five miners. The sole survivor, Harry Warden, was institutionalized, but returned for a vengeful massacre on the disaster's first anniversary.

Nineteen years later, the town is gearing up for another Valentine's Day party. Teen sweethearts T.J. and Sarah, along with their friend Axel, are among the excited partygoers. But when a box of candy containing an eerie warning and blood-soaked heart arrive, the townsfolk realize that romance is as good as dead. And so are they ...

Fantastic news. I can finally let go of my worries that my Lionsgate Blu will deteriorate and stop playing.

This. I've had the Lionsgate Blu since it was first available, and I've been lucky that it still works (my initial copy of Monster Squad wasn't as lucky), but that worry has been in the back of my mind for years now. I can finally relax on that front (assuming Scream keeps both cuts).

Any chance they might be able to properly restore the rough footage of the cut kills?

Guess I'll be selling my Lionsgate release before word gets out to more casual collectors. I love this flick, so if Arrow gets it too, that's just fine for me.

Needless to say this is one of the most beloved slashers and requested titles, even if it is double dip of the uncut version. As such, I really hope they step up their packaging and supplements with this title. I don’t expect Arrow level but something akin to their Creepshow release would be welcomed.

The Ballad of Harry Warden is just awesome. It was written by Paul Zaza and sung by accomplished Canadian-Scottish tenor John McDermott. Its smoky, folksy lyrics and sound draw comparisons to the great Gordon Lightfoot's The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald in a non-hokey way...it lends the film some added "heft" and almost grounds it in reality.

Reportedly Tarantino (MBV is his favorite slasher) and Eli Roth would play/sing it repeatedly while filming Inglourious Basterds.

To me it's just the cherry atop what I consider a top-3 slasher of all time. The characters, setting, atmosphere and villain's costume design...I just think it's class across the board.

If I had to nitpick and mark it up with my neophyte fingers, I'd have kicked the film off with Bobby Vinton's Roses Are Red. Another beloved '81 horror classic, An American Werewolf in London, opened up marvelously with the Vinton-crooned Blue Moon while Lynch would go on to use Blue Velvet to great success. I think the nostalgic, wistful charm of Roses Are Red would have been the perfect sweetener to this potent cocktail.
