Look like the same thing as the previous Paramount release, except with the addition of a "director's cut". Maybe it will have a new scan?

So...is Paramount officially getting back into the catalogue releasing game then? Or is this just a special one-off?

I would be shocked if it was anything but a one-off, though probably followed by a 40th anniversary edition of Grease next year.

That said, if Paramount have actually made an effort with a new scan, then all lovers of Blu-ray should purchase it, to try and wrest more catalogue titles from their vaults.

I've read on another forum that there was recently a new 4K scan of this film so I'm guessing it will be on this release.

Maybe the DC will be new scan. Probably just the old disc with a second disc that houses the DC.

I knew that there was a good reason why I haven't yet purchased this movie on Blu-ray. I've recently had a hankering to watch it again, but I'm glad that I held off.

I talked to John Badham at a screening of WarGames here in Vancouver a couple of months ago and he told me they just did a brand new 4k restoration of this, so yes the directors cut should be from the new scan. Not sure about the theatrical cut but Im going to assume that will be too.
Either way he told me its never looked or sounded better and that everything is now how it should be, so this should be a pretty sweet release!

Hopefully that doesn't mean all the colors will be desaturated as in his preferred DC of "Dracula".

Is the Director's cut a new cut of the movie? Wonder how it will differ.

This is GREAT! Pretty cool to see Paramount going the extra mile releasing this again properly with new stuff. I was afraid it would be another recycled edition with new artwork. Can't wait to see how this baby looks and sounds. I also had no idea about a Director's Cut so this should be quite fascinating. Bring on STAYING ALIVE next!

Next, they'll re-release The Godfather, Grease, Face/Off and Transformers. Yet no DEBUTS for Prophecy, King Kong 1976, The War of the Worlds 1953, When Worlds Collide, Addams Family Values or The Brady Bunch movies.

Good point. If this Saturday Night Fever re-release is an indication of Badham wanting to revisit his past work I wish someone would suggest he oversee Dracula with both it's full color restored and a B&W version (as that's how he would have preferred to have shot it). This way he can satisfy the legions of fans wanting this underrated gem looking as beautiful as it did upon release in 1979 and his own desire to have filmed it in B&W. The current version is neither one nor the other and looks terrible.

Actually, listening to Badham's commentary he talks about how he would shorten the film and pick up the pacing; let him re-edit and release it in B&W as his preferred version, along with the '79 theatrical in full color. Sounds like a great Scream/Shout release to me.

As much as I want Paramount to get on the ball with their other catalog titles that haven't been released yet I will say that Face/Off could use a major restoration overhaul.

For about five years, you could have bought this movie on Blu-ray for $6.00.

Yeah, good thing you held off
