Default Resident Evil Reboot

Quote:
Variety is reporting that the franchise will make a return in reboot form, as part of an original six-movie franchise that will be produced by Constantin Film.

Details about the franchise haven’t been revealed just yet, but Marin Moskowicz, chairman of the board for Constantin Film, noted that the franchise would be completely new, and won’t lean on characters from the previous films, like Milla Jovovich’s Alice.

It’s not really a surprise that Resident Evil is coming back to theaters. Despite the franchise not doing blockbuster business here in the U.S., The Final Chapter did pretty well overseas, earning $312 million worldwide, including nearly half of that in China alone.

It’s not likely that director Paul W.S. Anderson, who directed a few of the films in the series, will return, as he’s hard at work on bringing another Capcom franchise to the big screen, Monster Hunter, which is set to arrive sometime in late 2017 or early 2018. So that means the new Resident Evil will go in a different direction.

The question is if Constantin will turn back to the video games to introduce characters that haven’t had a chance to shine yet. After all, Capcom recently did a little rebooting of its own with the series, releasing the more survival/horror based Resident Evil 7: Biohazard earlier in the year. The game was definitely a turn for the better from the criticized Resident Evil 6, which was more action than horror, and became a big-seller for Capcom. The company hopes it’ll sell even more copies this year, with the strength of incoming downloadable content, including free and premium.

Whether Resident Evil can return to form has yet to be seen, but it’s nice to see Constantin is considering a fresh approach instead of trying to continue Alice’s story. We’ll let you know what the studio has in mind in the months ahead – but here’s hoping for a reboot with the same caliber as Biohazard.

Let's hope this time they actually care about the source material. Could you imagine if they made a Harry Potter movie where they killed Harry, Ron, Hermione, Dumbledore, and Hagrid off screen, made up their own villain that Voldemort was a lackey of, and focused on the directors wife instead?

Ugh. I was happy they were finally ending it. I hope the reboot fizzles and flops and they have to embarrassingly cancel their 6 movie plan like King Arthur.

On one hand I'm like, "Yes. Make an atmospheric terrifying Horror film set in the mansion from the first game!".

On the other hand I'm like, "6 movie plan? Yeah it'll be another CGI action-er for simpletons."

I wonder what route they'll take?

I would love for them to make a more survival horror look to the movie and set it as close to possible to the actual games story. I'd actually love if they started off at Spencer Mansion with Chris and Jill then move to Raccoon city and do Resident Evil 2 with Claire looking for Chris and introducing Leon whilst intersecting it with Resident Evil 3 nemesis then kick it into a franchise that combines as many of the elements from the games as movies.

This franchise had so much potential and it would be amazing if they actually did it in an authentic way with properly directed action scenes.

I always had a four season HBO style series in mind.

Season 1 would be elements of 0 and 1

Season 2 would be 2 and 3, mixed with a big of Outbreak for fun.

Season 3 would be Code Veronica, mixed with some original content on characters like Jill, Leon, Barry and Rebecca.

Season 4 would detail the fall of Umbrella, ending with the creation of the BSAA.

They could continue past four, but that'd be a good end point as well.

I enjoyed the other RE for what they were. Hopefully this new series follows the games more closely & are more horror oriented. Either way I'm always up for more Resident Evil films.

Thank God! No more Alice. She isn't even a character from the video games. Now they can focus more on characters like Chris, Jill, Leon, Claire, etc.

Just give us a trilogy of the first three games and get George Romero or Frank Darabont to direct them and you can do as you please with the remaining three films.

But above all else it must be HORROR not ACTION this time. God, how hard can that possibly be for them to understand?

Is it really going to end all life on this planet if you just ignore the movies altogether and let fans enjoy them?

Who do we want for Rebecca people? Assuming she isn't in the outgoing movies, lol I only saw a couple.

Is Leon in the movies? Ada? Sherry?

First 3 games had plenty of action set-pieces.

The games had some action (Mostly dealing with the bosses) but not the amount the movies had.

As much as I love the movies, I am happy to get a reboot. I think the reboot will follow the newer games like how tomb raider is happening. I would for Milla to have a cameo. It would not matter if it would be as small as a scientist in the back.
