Italy Adagio Blu-ray (2023) - dir. Stefano Sollima

CG Entertainment in Italy released Stefano Sollima's newest film "Adagio" starring Pierfrancesco Favino and Toni Servillo on Blu-ray a few weeks ago. As of now, the release is a bit harder to get, maybe due to larger demand.

I got my copy today and it has English subtitles even though there's no mentioning of this on the packaging - not even on the disc if you import the film. CG coded them as Italian subs, probably to keep this a secret in front of the other licensors.

Haven’t yet seen it but I imagine it’s in vein of his earlier films, particularly Suburra. If you enjoyed that one, I’d say give it a try.

Adagio
Young Manuel was caught with drugs by three corrupt police officers. Now they blackmail him into collecting compromising evidence against the illustrious party attendees during a party, which will then be made available to the mafia for further extortion. But Manuel takes the opportunity to escape. In desperation, he seeks protection and help from his father's former friends - all former gangsters themselves. But helper number 1 is now blind and helper 2, although a tough dog, is suffering from cancer. And Manuel's father is demented. And in the meantime the police have of course started the hunt for Manuel.
After three direct hits in a row (Suburra, Sicario 2, Without remorse) this is now a much weaker film from Stefano Sollima. The plot is heavily constructed and complicatedly told. Especially since it doesn't offer enough material for the 127 minute running time. The action isn't consistently exciting due to the occasional idleness. And the illnesses and age of the supporting actors, which the story suggests, don't really allow for anything like action. Sollima's production is, as usual, down-to-earth and grounded in reality, and there's not much that can be criticized in terms of acting, but that doesn't change the fact that I found Adagio somehow lame and boring. 5/10

Thank you for commenting. I appreciate your thoughts on this film. I still want to see it. Without Remorse wasn't a fantastic film; it was solid, but not fantastic: 6/10. Hopefully, Adagio is better.
