Noticed on the BBC's red button service earlier this week that the Women's Super League kicks off it's new season a week on Sunday (6th September). Usually, The Women's Football Show (which covers the Women's Super League) airs on BBC Four on early Sunday evenings, with a BBC One or BBC Two repeat on late Sunday nights.

Following on from the starter post late last week, have checked the listings for next weekend, and The Women's Football Show starts next Sunday night on BBC One, followed by new series Squad Goals.
Secondly, this year's Soccer Aid charity game is on next Sunday (on ITV as usual). |

Haven't watched Match of the Day (or the Sunday night spin-off either) in years. Much prefer watching the womens' game (although I do still check the BBC's red button service to see how some of the men's teams are doing). Think last season the title was given to the Manchester City ladies team (the year before, Arsenal's ladies team won the title).

We had a strong season, despite scraping through to get the second automatic place in the Championship. I'm glad Aston Villa survived in the Premier League, as we'll be able to have two derbies with them. |

![]() No, I don't like the man either - and he's not just on the BBC, he's also to be found on BT Sport presenting some (not all) of the Champions League games. I'm sure there used to be a time when you couldn't work for two different broadcasters at the same time, but maybe that's all changed now. As for women's football, I don't follow it but I did see a game a while back (don't remember who the teams were), and I was impressed by how well they played - they were getting stuck in there with some good tackles and were passing the ball around really well. I still prefer men's football though. ![]() Me too. I really enjoy both football and snooker, and have fond memories of the old faces from the 1980's which is round about the time when I began watching it on the BBC. Occasionally I'll follow a darts tournament - especially if there are players I recognize, and I've even been known to dip into cricket every now and again for some one-day matches - I've never bothered with test cricket. |

Then very recently I saw in the BBC listings some live cricket matches (both men's and women's matches). They could have been the one day internationals and not the test matches which take place over a few days. I know Steve Davis was labelled as boring (was his nickname 'Interesting'?), but he was one of my favourite snooker players as well (along with Jimmy White). Back then there were plenty of characters. Used to enjoy watching Big Break (they always played a bit of that song by I think The Undertones, whenever Jimmy White walked onto the set). Haven't played snooker in years. There used to be a local snooker club, but it's been closed for a long time now. You could play on the Riley tables. |

![]() I've noticed how the odd celebrity works for more than one channel, compared to the majority who seem to have an exclusive contract with one broadcaster/channel. Quote:
Occasionly you do get goals in the womens' football matches which are as good as those in the mens' matches. There was one last season which was a long shot from far out (might have been a West Ham or Reading game). |

![]() Loads of great characters in the 80's.....from memory as well as Davis, there was Terry Griffiths, Ray Reardon, Dennis Taylor, Jimmy White, Cliff Thorburn, Willie Thorne, Alex Higgins....many others I'm sure who I can't quite dig out from my memory at this moment. Chas & Dave even recorded a novelty song called 'Snooker Loopy' in 1985/6 which featured many of the snooker players from that time. Quote:
Quite how Lineker gets away with working for two broadcasters as well as doing crisp commercials, I just don't know. Frankly he should keep his nose out of politics, but not only that, I just don't like his style of presenting either. I've seen him on BT Sport and in my opinion Jake Humphrey (normally does the Premier League games) is a far better presenter, and quite witty as well. Lineker is just too dry for my liking and comes across as a know-it-all. I've never understood why the BBC hold him in such high regard, and he sure as hell isn't worth the money he's being paid. tob, the Arsenal ladies team got off to a great start this past weekend, winning 6-1 against Reading.
Squad Goals (watched that as well last night) it turns out has previously been shown on BBC Three (some of the programmes shown on that channel get shown later on on BBC One (late at night). There was a BBC Three logo in the top left-hand corner. |

tob, you must be on a buzz after this past weekend's football matches (the men's team won I think 3-0, and the ladies team beat West Ham 9-1). We didn't get off to a good start against Leicester, losing 3-0 at home.
The Women's Super League is taking an international break, and in addition to that, last season's FA Cup resumes. The Women's Football Show will be back in October sometime. Did The NFL Show start a new series this past Saturday night? I know from a friend that the NFL season started recently. |

Based on the BBC Red Button service, The Women's Football Show should be back on Sunday 4th October, based on the Women's Super League returning after the international break and last season's FA Cup competition resuming, on the weekend of Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th October.

Saw something on the BBC News this past weekend that Lineker has signed a five-year deal with the BBC. That's another five years I won't be watching Match of the Day. Apparently (based on a video interview clip), the BBC's new director-general is a big fan of Lineker. Hoping though that he doesn't let Lineker cross the line with his social media political posts.
On a separate note, The Women's Football Show will be on next weekend. |

The Women's Super League is going on an international break for a couple of weeks. At the end of last night's edition of The Women's Football Show, they said that an FA Cup match will be on the BBC on Sunday 1st November. So, I'm guessing the Women's Super League will resume on the weekend of Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th November (with the next edition of The Women's Football Show being on BBC One on Sunday 8th November).
