A film I never liked because I seen it at too young an age (BBC2 very late night IIRC) and never really understood much of it. A very difficult film to access for the viewer.

Just a note about this release, the back cover indicates a duration of 124 minutes but it's a typo. This is the full uncut 130 minute version.

They are probably using the PAL speed up DVD run time rather than the 24fps slower time of a BD.

Depends on what you're asking. The Australians are getting a new BD with a handful of extras, included in this Brando set. On the other hand, if you're looking for a new 4K remaster, I wouldn't get my hopes up.

Given it's Imprint, that release is bound to be the same transfer with possibly worse compression.

*Definitely* worse compression - I'm amazed how a label can arrange and license so many titles (which is a complicated process in itself) and then lazily dump such shoddy encoding on their disks which is arguably easier to sort out than any clearing of releases.

They also have a habit of using DVD era HD transfers from 20 odd years ago.

Unfortunately, it only has Italian subs.

There's been a 4k DCP around for ages and it surprises me nobody's picked it up. I can only assume it's too hot a potato after Maria Schneider's comments and the ridiculous distortions that have led way too many people to think she was literally ***ed on screen.

I asked Kino about it and they said they had no interest in releasing it though NOT because of any controversy.

I would hope Criterion would be brave enough to release it, albeit with some contextual extras, but I suspect our best chance is that a European company releases a 4k with English subs.
