United Kingdom Ponyo - 7th June

Is being released as a Combi Pack with DVD and Special Edition Combi Pack, the latter includes sticker sheets and artcards according to Play. I still haven't seen Ponyo yet but I'll definitely check it out when it's released. The report on this site says that it is being released as the first title in the studio's Studio Ghibli Collection, and has the number 17 on the spine (as Ponyo was the 17th feature film produced by Studio Ghibli). Is this suggesting that the other Studio Ghibli films will be remastered and released on Blu-ray soon? If so then this would be great, and I hope a Spirited Away Blu-ray is then not too far away.

Great! Any idea of the specs? Lossless Japanese audio included? Region free?

There's the report, there's nothing on the audio tracks or whether it's a region free disc, but there's a full list of special features.

It looks like a very nice edition. I'll hold off on ordering the Japanese BD for a little while longer until the audio tracks are announced for this one. If the audio is lossless in Japanese and it's region free, I might get this one. It'll be cheaper than buying the Japanese edition.

Great news! DVDActive reports that this release has English 5.1 LPCM and Japanese 6.1 DTS-HD MA.

Thank you so much for posting this. This is just too awesome for words: according to that site, it's not only Japanese 6.1 HD MA, but also region free

Edit:
I just found confirmation that it's actually region locked B:
http://homecinema.thedigitalfix.co.u...d-in-june.html

Guess I'll be importing the Japanese edition then ...

I opted for the normal combi pack because the deluxe edition is a digipak. I just want all the studio ghibli films to be uniformed when they are all released.

Fair point, but what if they're all released in the same 2 versions? Maybe you'll be able to collect them all in deluxe editions...which would be brilliant! I'm going for the digipack, purely because I'm a big fan of the design.

I haven't seen Ponyo yet, but I love Studio Ghibli. Definite +1 for a BD of Spirited Away, but I'd also love Princess Mononoke and My Neighbour Toroto. All of them tbh! I hope they don't do the Disney Classics route and stagger the releases too much.

I'm really unsure whether or not to switch my order to the digipak or not, I reckon I will. If they don't release the others in digipak special editions I could always sell mine and buy a normal edition on the cheap!

Great to hear it's lossless audio for the Japanese soundtrack. I emailed Optimum months ago to ask about that, but they never responded!

I don't care what version I get shipped. So long as it has a blu ray with HQ Japanese audio... The rest of the stuff is just trinkets...

Little bit off-topic but does anyone reckon whether or not the rest of the Studio Ghibli catalogue titles will be priced like Ponyo when they eventually get released or do you think that they will be priced around £12.99 or something?

Weird how some retailers (Zavvi, Amazon) only seem to be carrying the Special Edition.

Just order the Combi. I hate Digipacks, they look tatty after you've touched them twice. :P

Aren't they being distributed by Disney though? If so then they'll definitely be at the higher price to begin with. Would be nice if they came out at £12.99 though!

Ah, OK. I still don't see them released much below £15 though.
