Default The Last Train From Hiroshima | James Cameron

Quote:
While “A3” is topmost in mind for the filmmaker, he hopes to take time before “Avatar 4” to direct a pet project, “The Last Train From Hiroshima: The Survivors Look Back,” based on the book by author Charles R. Pellegrino. Research included an interview with the late Tsutomu Yamaguchi, the only known survivor of both the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings.

“We live in a more precarious world than we thought we did,” says Cameron, reflecting on the war in Ukraine and resurgent nationalism. “I think the Hiroshima film would be as timely as ever, if not more so. It reminds people what these weapons really do when they’re used against human targets.”

Like “Avatar: The Way of Water,” the Hiroshima film seems meant to be experienced on the big screen. In fact, all Cameron films should be viewed that way. “Enough of the streaming already,” he told the Independent at the Golden Globes. “I’m tired of sitting on my ass.” [+]

Yeah, dude can barely be taken away from his precious Avatar flicks to approve new transfers for True Lies and The Abyss.

How the hell do people think he'll take the time to make a whole different movie than his blue people??

I hope so!

As much as I like the Avatar movies, it's not the only thing I would like James Cameron to do for the next ten years.

There's a difference. But you can stay at home and just wait for the movies to be released on streaming, dude.

Oof. Cameron's strengths do not lie in history or politics. Stick to the action movies Jim.

There's no reason for "Jim" to "stick to action movies then."

I don't understand the context of this statement? Is this in reflection of Cameron beyond his films or what?

No, it's about his filmmaking - he outright falsified elements of the Titanic disaster. His other movies are politically and historically naive but chiefly I'm concerned about someone willing to lie making a movie about an event like this.

How many people do you think believe that that police officer from Titanic really shot a civilian and then himself? Movies help shape historical perception. This is also why 'just don't watch it then' is a stupid argument.

Duuuuuude. Movies are movies. Artistic interpretations of stories.

If someone wants some facts about a subject matter, they better read it up (in factual books, not fiction).

Not anyone's fault if people are dumb or too lazy to read.

Yeah, anyone who depends on Hollywood for "facts" about history either doesn't understand that they are in the entertainment business first, last and only or doesn't care. There's a reason even marginally "true" stories always start with the words "Based on a True Story." Key words: Based On.

Either way, I'll definitely be in line to see Cameron's movie on opening day in 3057.

James Cameron Buys ‘Ghosts Of Hiroshima’ Book And Commits To Film As His Next Project As Soon As ‘Avatar’ Production Permits

Quote:
Deadline can reveal that Oscar-winning filmmaker James Cameron has purchased the rights to Charles Pellegrino‘s forthcoming book Ghosts of Hiroshima.

Cameron has committed to use that, and the 2015 Pellegrino book Last Train From Hiroshima, as the basis for a film he will shoot as soon as Avatar production permits. Cameron shared with Deadline that the two nonfiction books will be adapted into one “uncompromising theatrical film.” It will mark Cameron’s first non-Avatar film since 1997’s Oscar-winning Titanic.

The film will be called Last Train From Hiroshima.

This is an old post but I heavily agree. WWII era Japan is fascinating but incredibly nuanced. Many simplify it to the detriment of history (such as John Toland's The Rising Sun, which is full revisionism to an embarrassing degree), and I worry how Cameron could further muddy the waters. The naivety of Avatar used for actual war history? Scary stuff...

Also Charles R. Pellegrino is a known liar, who says he received a PhD but never actually has. Double my worries with him being the source material Cameron is drawing from.
