Erotic Thrillers on blu-ray & 4K UHD

Not all film noir's are erotic, but all erotic thrillers draw on the
stylization, aesthetics and plotting of film noir. For example:

Mulholland Drive is a surrealist mystery art film.

Eyes Wide Shut is an erotic drama film.

Sex Lies & Videotape is a drama film.

Les Diaboliques is a psychological horror film.

I had the same thought. But for some reason erotic is listed under the genres in this site.

Since we've established genres are just down to opinion, I believe Psycho is a comedy. Please don't correct me!

Of course there's still new ones being made....but I kinda feel like the genre peaked in the 90s....kinda like the 'teenager get laid' comedy genre peaked in the 80s.

Could also be just nostalgia about the films that I saw back in the day compared to now.

I would not categorize 'Angel Heart', or 'Play Misty For Me', as erotic thrillers.

I remember the era well and there was pretty much a divide of the mainstream films like the blockbusters such as Basic Instinct and the many thousands of movies airing late night on premium channels and through the rental VHS market. Some were thrillers, some were more noir, others not really either but were still adjacent and lumped in with the scene. Even all the bikini and party movies were pretty much included in that scene to a degree since they all tended to air pretty late at night. I liked them all. Unfortunately, companies are not taking an interest in releasing the non-theatrical movies on blu, let alone 4k.

Quite so.

There's an untapped market in the direct-to-VHS and made-for-cable
Erotic Thriller of the 1980s and 1990s. When I started the thread I
expected to find more of them, but only a handful are on blu-ray.
They were all atmospheric films, shot on 35mm or 16mm, designed
and photographed in noir style, so they will look good under the
scrutiny of 4K scanning. I'm compiling a list now and will post that,
and email it to home video companies in the vague chance they might
take an interest. In any case the thread will be overhauled in due
course. No hurry.

So does that mean Perfect Blue is an erotic thriller too because it's more of a psychological thriller flick to me, and many people. So neither that film, and Black Swan belong on the erotic thriller list as they don't fit the erotic thriller genre at all.
