Germany Gingerclown 3D Blu-ray (2013) [Region Free]

I couldn't find a thread for this bizarre 3D comedy horror. It's about a group of teens in the early 80s who go into an abandoned theme park and find themselves terrorised by a strange group of monsters.

The 3D is very good throughout but there are a lot of 2D shots sprinkled in there. The location and atmosphere is wonderful in 3D. The creatures are imaginative but they're presented in such a comedic way, with silly voices by well known horror stars. Some of these creature scenes are really drawn out too.

I know 13thman has done a write up on this somewhere but I struggled to find it.

The trailer reminds me of Tobe Hooper's Funhouse, which is a good horror movie that also takes place in a carnival with rides and a horror house cart ride.

The laugh in the beginning of this trailer sounded like Emperor Palpatine from Rise of Skywalker.

I see there is swearing by the creatures in this film, suggesting this is a comedy. Lance Henriksen plays Braineater. I like the creature designs and their glowing yellow eyes.

Looks interesting, and good to hear the 3D is decent. Does it look like it was filmed in 3D or converted? 3D Conversions for very low budget films are usually really weak, as with the incredibly mild 3D of Upside Down.

In my opinion, Gingerclown is a terrible movie with mostly flat native 3-D.
There's some decent depth in only a handful of scenes but it wasn't enough
to satisfy this 3-D fan. If you really want to see it, I highly recommend a
rental first.

I wasn't pleasantly surprised by the 3D, given that it's native it was actually far worse than I was expecting. Dark, shimmery, barely any depth - ugly. The overlong opening scene that sets up the trip into the amusement park looks terrible, the acting is terrible - it was such a bad start that it took me about 20 minutes to get into the film, i.e. when the monsters/clowns turned up. They may be barely articulated puppets but at least they have an old school charm and the voices of course are provided by some quality actors (Tim Curry, Lance Henriksen, Brad Dourif, Michael Winslow and Sean Young - all of whom sound like they are having a good time).

Sadly, the puppets don't actually do much or have much screen time - most of the film is just the two lead characters wandering about in the dark. Too dark for the 3D to look any good. When there was a bit of lighting I did get a nice sense of space, but this didn't happen too often - there were only a few quality 3D moments (light pouring through planks, a scene with rows of mirrors, some bats comin' at ya). Most of it was soft, murky and shallow. The odd out of focus dark bit of scenery did pop out but other than the aforementioned bats (a cheap effect) there was no memorable pop-out whatsoever, very disappointing given that there's not much depth either.

Needless to say, I don't recommend this one. I was hoping it would come off as a cross between The Funhouse and Killer Klowns From Outer Space but you'd be better off watching either of those films than this.

I did think there were a lot of nice 3D shots, the location looked amazing in 3D. The movie is just so odd though and those creature scenes are so drawn out, like they wanted to make the most of having horror actors in the movie by making those sequences as long as possible.

The movie was quite stupid and the native 3D was underused. To summarise this 3D movie: There's nothing to see here!

I though Tim Curry would be starring in the film but unfortunately it's just his great voice we hear.

If you are going to see it, watch the end credits to the end.

All of them are from resellers because the film is out of print, you won't find it anywhere new.

I’ve noticed that with 3d you have to jump on the releases right away as they always go OOP.
I missed out on Young Detective Dee and Out of Inferno back in the day too. Now they are ridiculously expensive.
This site is a blessing and a curse. Its helped me learn about and discover many foreign bluray i had never heard of. But sadly i didnt get into foreign 3d right away, so for many of these, by the time i discover them, the easy purchase window is long done.

Ive learned my lesson. Now anytime a 3d bluray is announced I scoop it up.

Some 3D Blu-rays are dirt cheap but unfortunately many that went out of print are now prized by their owners and you won't find them cheap unless you are super lucky.
