Default Fudoh: The New Generation 4K (Media Blasters)

This kind of surprised me, but John Sirabella mentioned in a recent youtube blog that "Fudoh: The New Generation" is a strong candidate to be their first 4k title( listen in at 4 minutes, 30 seconds)-

There's a thread about this in 4K Wish Lists. (I thought about posting it here, but since it's not a confirmed release, Wish Lists seemed like the best fit.)

I missed that. Yeah, you are right. "Pinocchio 964" was also being considered for a 4k, but that didn't pan out and it ended up being a blu ray. I have a good feeling about "Fudoh: The New Generation" though because it is a Takashi Miike title, it has a strong cult status, and the 35mm film elements seem to be in decent condition.

Lol I thought the movie had something to do with the thumbnail for the video.

I can't wait to upgrade this. One of the best Miike films.

Yeah this thread has been a real emotional rollercoaster for me as a confused Miike fan.

Media Blasters confirmed they are working on both a blu ray and 4k edition of "Fudoh: The New Generation". Here is a before and after demonstration-

According to their facebook page, "Fudoh: The New Generation" is off to HDR/ authoring work. MediaOCD will be handling the authoring for the 4k UHD. Very exciting news!

Media Blasters is still around? Seemed prominent in DVD days, seemed like they released a handful of BDs (I'm sure they did more but I cannot remember the last time I purchased one)...

Yeah, I'm surprised that they are still around. "Pinocchio 964" was a possibility to be their first 4k title, but they decided to release it on blu ray only. Anyway, I'm looking forward "Fudoh: The New Generation" on 4k UHD. It's my favorite Miike movie.

I checked 'Shriek Show' and the only thing they've released since 2017 is one title back in 2020, to a grand total of 20 releases on the format. Unless they primarily do just erotic anime now, under a different umbrella like Media Blasters (general) or ___ Flix (don't remember the name but remember a curtain intro on the DVDs prior to the growling teeth image). which I don't follow. DVD days it was a LOT of horror and gialli.

Sounds like they made a bit of a turnaround with the grain / dirt removal. Happy to hear!
YouTube compression is absolutely horrible but it still looks much more like film now.

Yeah, I agree. It sounds like John values film grain. I really wish FiM handled the encode/ authoring, but it is what it is.

I asked on Twitter, and it's both a UHD and Blu-ray.

They should really mention UHD in the title. The BD in the title will confuse people. They did write "This marks Media Blaster's landmark first UHD release" in the last sentence in the description though.
