Default Wyatt Earp: Special Expanded Edition (1994)

Wyatt Earp: Special Expanded Edition (1994)

This is 212 minute expanded edition vs. its 190 theatrical cut. This expanded edition was released on laserdisc and VHS back in the 1990s, which are both incredibly hard-to-find. I'm not sure if this was approved by writer/director Lawrence Kasdan or not, and if he considers it a Director's Cut.

It would make a lot of sense for the Warner Archive label to release this.

Kasdan definitely approved of the expanded cut, he did some liner notes for the laserdisc and VHS talking about the new material. Sadly I had to junk the tape when my VHS player finally keeled over a few years ago. The deleted scenes are present on the BD, but in the bonus features rather than reinserted into the film. I would buy it again on BD to have the expanded cut, but I doubt this will ever happen.

I've still got my VHS, but haven't watched it years. Don't even have my VCR hooked up anymore.

Good to know about the deleted scene as extras on the BD, I wasn't aware of that. I've always held off waiting for an expanded cut.

I guess all we can do is hope for Warner Archive to do something. If not, I guess I'll have to find a copy of the LD somewhere.

I own the Laserdisc Expanded Edition Box set . I really believe this should be the Difinitive cut of the film it adds more dimension to character of Wyatt Earp . The Chapters of the reinstated scenes are marked for comparison. We need to partition ,the whoever has it
,to release in all its “Glory , But hanging on my Laserdisc ...

Warner owns it and lucky for us, they expanded their deal with Shout! recently.

Either that or sublicense it to Criterion, whichever label suits better.

Well, Shout are releasing City Slickers later this year so, if they're doing a series of Westerns, there's a sliver of hope.

USA Expanded Edition BD...PLEASE!!!

I'm patiently awaiting the potential release of Wyatt Earp in expanded form on BD! I used to own the VHS version. Like many others, I no longer have a working VCR. I would buy the expanded BD version in a heartbeat! Warner Bros. and Lawrence Kasdan...please release!!!

Glad to see some love for the expanded edition. Used to have it on vhs. Since I finally broke down and bought it on blu ray, you should be seeing the extended cut come out real soon.

I personally think this film would be primed for a 4K Remaster and a 4K UHD release. Especially in the expanded edition form.

I was brought here, because the old Blu is $5.99 on Amazon today. Got me thinking more about some ok Costner’s older 90’s titles.

Would love to buy an extended version of this film. While I really enjoyed Tombstone, I prefer the heavier, more serious film Wyatt Earp. Kudos to Dennis for all the weight he lost for this film as well!!

George Feltenstein (of Warner Archive) very recently confirmed the reason why we haven't seen this issued since the laserdisc days - apparently Lawrence Kasdan does not wish it to be released anymore.

This needs a 4K of both cuts, and remastered Blu-rays too. The old disc (it’s an ollllld disc) seriously has Dolby Digital sound. It’s basically a DVD on a Blu-ray disc. I pity those that still have to watch movies in this quality.

There’s got to be some boots out there somewhere. Even if there wasn’t, we could easily make one just by ripping the Blu-ray and cutting in the scenes.

Also, if eBay is to be believed, there was never an expanded VHS in America, only a laserdisc.
