Tommy Lee Jones (The Package) and Samuel L. Jackson (Changing Lanes) deliver electrifying performances in this tense, superbly directed film about what happens when the rules that command a soldier become the rules that condemn him. Colonel Terry Childers (Jackson) is a patriot and a war hero. But when a peacekeeping mission he leads in Yemen goes terribly wrong, he finds himself facing court-martial. Accused of breaking the rules of engagement by killing unarmed civilians, Childers’ only hope of vindication rests with comrade-in-arms Hayes Hodges (Jones), a military lawyer of questionable abilities. Together, they face the battle of their lives. From master filmmaker William Friedkin, director of The French Connection, The Exorcist and To Live and Die in L.A., and co-starring Guy Pearce, Bruce Greenwood, Anne Archer and Ben Kingsley, Rules of Engagement is a powerful, controversial thriller that examines the legal and ethical implications of military actions.

Somewhere on Melrose Ave there’s a Paramount executive laughing his ass off at the package of titles he sold Kino

Another in a series of throw away late 90s/early 2000 movies via Paramount/Kino.

Speaking of late 90s, can Paramount at least give a statement on why .. A SIMPLE PLAN .. has never been on disc? I think fans are entitled to know why.

And while we're at it, hey Paramount, can we get Woody Allen's PLAY IT AGAIN,SAM... on disc too? Only one of his best films from the 70s.

PAPER MOON. There's another Paramount classic that never had a Blu.

A Simple Plan has been licensed to a boutique label for a few years now.

Well, that's good to know.

Gonna assume it's Criterion as they like to sit on films for yrs. Hopefully we get it before the end of the decade.

I remember Kino announcing Friedkin's Bug 4k, then taking it back. Imprint eventually released a 1080p version instead.

I hope the same thing doesn't happen to Rules of Engagement. Seems like this one has been sitting out there for some time, with only some horrid cropped/bad video quality versions offered on blu-ray. I hope we at least get a quality 1080p version from someone. The DVD is better than the blu-rays released thus far.

That happened because they had difficulty working with Friedkin. Now that he's passed away there won't be issue like that anymore.

Does that mean Bug 4k is back on the table, or a done deal with Imprint?

Imprint just has rights for Australia. I know Kino had cancelled plans for Jade as well, and had said they tried to get it back after he passed, but another label had already licensed it (either Arrow or Shout I imagine). I'm not sure if it's the same for Bug though. Kino were one of the only labels to actually get a deal with Lionsgate.

I personally don’t agree we’re getting films that haven’t been on Blu-Ray before also this is not a throw away title it’s a very underrated movie, and I’m excited about this, Rampage, and Gung-Ho. Sure I think Kino has Paper Moon even though they won’t admit it, and I also think they have Rage in Harlem too. Also possibly Kino has a Simple Plan too it’s not like we’re not getting good titles though. If you want some actual throw away Paramount movies that I hope Kino doesn’t have I can list them right now.

Sliver terrible flipping movie
Dead Man on Campus
Superstar probably the worst SNL movie I’ve seen
Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles there are fans of the first two films but there are pretty much no fans of this film
Crossroads from 2002 starring Britney Spears
Extreme Ops
Without a Paddle
The Prince and Me the first one
The Stepford Wives remake

Now if we got any of these then very few people would actually be happy with any of these choices.

Had the exact same thought when I saw this pop up

Still, they're not the only ones, look at Arrow with Clash of the Titans

Just so I'm clear, they just announced it's coming, not a date, right?

If so, how long does Kino operate between announcement and the announcement of a release date?

Correct. How long it takes wll vary significantly. Depends on a number of factors, including whether the 4K master is ready to go, or they still have to complete the scan, etc..Plus, producing any new extras, if any. I would guess we may not see the title until either Fall/Winter this year, or sometime next year.
