Default Looking for new TV

After having a 720p tv for several years now I'm ready to upgrade to 1080p and I'm wanting either a 40" or a 42" tv but after spending hours at CC and HHGregg yesterday I couldn't make up my mind, there are too many choices. My heart was set on a 1080p Sharp 32" tv but as the sales guy said, you wouldn't be taking full advantage of 1080p on a tv that small. He showed me an open box Sony KDL40V2500 for $1,099 and I was going to jump on it but I wanted to see what y'all recommended before I buy it. He kept reassuring me that I had a 60 day price match gurantee. I'm trying to keep my price range as close to $1,200 and below. He showed me a 32" Sharp 720p for $699 and it looked really good but I already made a promise to myself that the next tv I go with has to be 1080p.

What should I do? Should I get the TV or get another one? I would be happy with a 32" but like the guy said I would not be taking advantage of 1080p. I will be probably sitting 7 feet away from the TV if that makes much of a difference. Should I stay at CC for a tv or is there a better place to go in Atlanta, Ga?

Thanks for any help!

Well if you are willing to wait a few more months and are a Sony fan you may want to check out the KDL-32XBR6. I think I am going to pick that up for a bedroom.

I kicked its big brother to the curb!!

I bought it the week it was on sale with the ps3 at CC for $1999!!

The samsung for the same price KILLS it!!

I was really into the Qam tuners cause this was a game room tv so I wasn't going to have a box hooked up to it. Not only did the Sony NOT pull in the QAM stations, it couldn't even pull in locals on an attenna!! WTF!!!

So I returned it and got the samsung 46" 1080p for $1599!! Also, the SOny doesn't have auto detect inputs and the blacks are no where as black as Samsung!!

Don't overpay for the SONY name on TV's when Samsung is better and cheaper!!!

Nope, the Sony didn't. You have to toggle trough each individual input regardless if there is a signal or not. You can go in and choose to skip it, but you still have to do that.

The Samsung just displays the inputs that have something plugged into it!! Plus, with an antenna or straight cable you have to physically switch back & forth between Analog and HD where the samsung puts both together.

Sorry, I miss understood what you meant. I thought you meant the resolution, switching with the input signal. I use a cable box plugged into HDMI, so I never noticed the antenna problem.

not sure how I feel about a panasonic tv, I've been a fan of Samsung TVs since I first got mine, the picture quality of my tv is better than my parents new Akai 27", I know it is a cheaper brand but still, it is using newer technology.

If I was to get a Samsung 40", which one is the one to go for that is close to $1,200?

Panasonic is the world largest CE company and their products are top notchs in term of quality and values. U cant go wrong with Panny. I did not know they make 1080p LCD now. Their plasma is still kick ass

If you are after a LCD set, then the Sony X series IMO just can't be beaten. Just make sure you don't watch it set to vivid... to get the best out of it it needs to be calibrated. Once done the picture is second to none in the LCD stakes.
