Live Action TMNT The Last Ronin movie in the works

After the success of last year’s animated hit film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, Paramount Pictures is keeping turtle power going by putting a new feature project into development.

This one, however, will go beyond the realm of the all-ages material the long-standing property is known for and instead go into gritty, R-rated, territory.

Paramount is developing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin, adapting a popular storyline seen in the recent IDW comics, as a live-action feature with the intent of making it for an R-rating.

Tyler Burton Smith, who co-wrote the upcoming R-rated action movie Boy Kills World and who wrote the 2019 iteration of Chucky horror franchise Child’s Play, is penning the script.

yes a lot of fans want it to be a legacy sequel to the 1990 movie with Henson suits and getting Elias Koteas and Judith Hoag back to play older April and Casey and having Steve Barron direct.

Good God, that would be incredible. But my hopes for this are very low, i'll be surprise if it even happens. But who knows, stranger things have happened!

An absolutely brilliant graphic novel. Please don't dumb it down for the kids. There is a whole generation who saw the first Ninja Turtles as kids who are now adults. Make a hard-hitting (Last Ronin is pretty brutal) movie for them. This is honestly a dream come true. I've always wanted an 18-rated Ninja Turtles movie.

They should have costumes for the body and CG for the head. And hire martial artists for the fights because anyone can be in the costumes.

Nickelodeon and Paramount releasing an Rated R movie and releasing the merch in the toys section in front of millions of kids will be an instant bomb in the movie theaters

Good thing all Last Ronin merchandise that NECA makes already is not in the kids section but the adult collectibles section.

Maybe it’s just that I went to an afternoon screening during the week but demographic for my MUTANT MAYHEM screening was all male 30-40yo.

The animated fan teaser looked amazing and the comic run for this story was brutal for what had ever been expected of TMNT. The live action, on one hand i'm genuinely interested but highly concerned because animated (near photorealistic styles) would probably get closer to being accurate to the story as it was made. Once it goes to live action, i can't help but feel when it's supposed to be based around a specific story from the lore, they'll take liberties to cast certain actors and "star power" be focused on first rather than the story.

Hopefully there will be an eventual animated movie for The Last Ronin too but i hope they get this right in live action 5o maybe consider an animated version down the line if this does stray. Hell, i would argue an Amazon/Netflix etc. style episodic animated version would be amazing to get with some extremely passionate involvement from the creators and a top notch animation studio.
