Ah, thanks. Looks like the massive FEL layers weren't done to fix things or be used as a "crutch" to bypass QC in any way, it was just some random figure put into the bitrate-o-meter and was never the cause of the mediocrity underneath in the first place. That's another theory Ruined.

This is sooooooo frustrating. KL picks up a picture that most labels have no interest in releasing, get an obviously fantastic 4K restoration from the original negative, go through the trouble to produce 2 wonderful interviews with the director and star and then, well then, mess it all up spectacularly with subpar encoding (think Mill Creek bad).
I will keep this fine picture (Blu-ray looks mostly good) but cancelled all KL preorders for the foreseeable future. I'm fine with the fact that not everything can be FiM level quality, but really Kino, I don‘t get it. Is it economics? Maybe release less and up your game on the QC front and, PLEASE, don’t let the interns do the encoding. (Same goes for The Two Jakes) |
