USA The Hitch-Hiker (1953) - October 15, 2013

The Hitch-Hiker Blu-ray

Quote:
BRAND NEW TRANSFER / 35 MM Archival Restoration from the Library of Congress, Exclusively on the Kino Classics label!
Quote:
The only true film noir ever directed by a woman, this tour-de-force thriller (considered by many, including Lupino herself, to be her best film) is a classic, tension-packed, three-way dance of death about two middle-class American homebodies (Edmond O'Brien and Frank Lovejoy) on vacation in Mexico on a long-awaited fishing trip. Suddenly their car and their very lives are commandeered by psychopathic serial killer Emmett Myers (William Talman).

Given that this film never got a good DVD release, this will be most welcome.

Yeah and if they put out D.O.A I can get rid of my double feature of D.O.A/The Hitch-Hiker (the Edmond O'Brien double feature).

The Roan release was definitely superior to the Kino disc. Man, did Kino release some absolute junk back then.

Popped in my VCI DVD last night and it looked like crap. I don't remember it looking so bad when I first viewed it a few years back. Needless to say I will be looking forward to this!

Im going to upgrade anyway but Im super hopeful that they do a better job with this release with the PQ than their DVD. It was so bad that I got the Roan Group DVD

Kino's HITCH-HIKER Blu-ray looks generally outstanding. There is some obvious print wear at times, but the occasional scratches and dust are very minor. It's a great little film that now also looks great and sounds very good. The image gallery is a nice bonus, but it's too bad they didn't do a commentary like they did with THE STRANGER and NIGHT TIDE (both of which also look extremely good despite minor obvious wear).

I just revisited this film and it’s still quite suspenseful even after rewatches.
