Default Thread to report classic/vintage movies re-releases in theaters

This thread will be for reporting any classic/vintage movies that return to theaters that are chain-wide (Regal, AMC, IMAX, Showcase etc.) or shown across a large portion of the country as a re-release or special engagement (Fathom Events, or studio released like what Sony did with Cruel Intentions earlier this year).

About a week ago some Regal and AMC theaters ran a two night special engagement of The Shining in 4K in anticipation for the release of Doctor Sleep. I learned of this event only days before it occurred.

Yesterday, Regal ran a 40th Anniversary re-release of Monty Python and the Holy Grail. I literally learned about this the morning of screening.

I think since some of these special screenings can easily be missed because of not hearing about them in time, it might be a good idea to have a thread reporting of any such screenings.

I would suggest only using this thread for screenings showing at multiple theaters and not just at your local theater.

This is a good idea.

I'm going to watch the 35th anniversary Ghostbusters that's being shown today!

I do but some days it slips by me and that is why I never noticed Month Python was playing until the day of. Also I don’t always have time to check every single day, so I just thought it would be nice if someone learns of an upcoming re-release it would be nice to have them posted here so we can better plan to go to them instead of learning at last minute.

My local Regal theater is selling advance tickets for:

November 30:
The Polar Express
https://www.regmovies.com/movies/hs1...ess/ho00009910

December 14:
Elf
https://www.regmovies.com/movies/hs19-elf/ho00009909

December 21:
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
https://www.regmovies.com/movies/hs1...ion/ho00009911

Although the December 7 Christmas movie hasn't been posted yet, it will most likely be "A Christmas Story" because it looks like they are showing the same four movies they showed last year ("The Polar Express", "A Christmas Story", "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation", and "Elf")

If the past is any indication, I would expect some of these movies (especially "Elf") to also show up at AMC Theatres in December.

Wow, it should look amazing in Dolby Cinema. This is A-List friendly too.

Well, I was wrong. I played around with the URL and discovered it will be "Gremlins". Regal didn't show it last year during December but they did show it during December 2017.

Apparently this is only going to be playing at five theaters in NY and LA. But still a neat event.

I'd love to see 'Empire' on a deluxe ultra large screen, but not on a XD screen that is a set 1.78 screen resulting in 'letterboxing' - a properly w-i-d-e 2.39 screen please.

Looks like we can expect this to be one of the TCM Fathom Events next year. Maybe October’s?

Oh what I wouldn't give to see that on the big screen. I usually FB message or email my local arthouse theater around August/September to see if they'll do a screening of it but they can never find a print to show.
