Finally received my God's Own Country (Region B) Blu-ray here in the States. Amazon US has been pretty sketchy with the Region A Blu-ray release (going temporarily out of stock on the release date). I can report that the Region B disc successfully plays on my Region A-locked player via the Stop/Top Menu trick (Toshiba BDX2000 player). Also, the feature and all supplements play on my TV which doesn't accept 50Hz content, so all content is indeed 1080/24p (Panasonic TC-P50G25).

Wait what?! One post about God’s Own Country on blu-ray.com? How is that even possible?! Granted it doesn’t come in steelbook packaging or with collectible postcards but... words fail me... I’ve looked and better looked for a thread and this seems to be it...
I loved this film. It gets compared to Brokeback Mountain (because they both include sheep, cold and gays, presumably) but I thought it was far more nuanced and had more in common with Kes than Brokeback Mountain (but maybe I’m just peddling another cliche). Hopefully it’ll get a Criterion release, or even better, a British re-release in a scratch n sniff slipcase with collectible pink cellophane so blu-ray.com is forced to acknowledge its existence. |

Also thought the leads in GOC had WAY more chemistry than in Call Me By Your Name. It's a shame that GOC wasn't exhibited/promoted more here in the States, definitely had some Oscar worthy performances.

This film was heaps better than Call Me By Your Name. However it's a more primal and realistic look at sexuality than the very stylised and conventional Call Me By Your Name which would probably appeal to more people.
I think it had a lot more in common with the 'kitchen sink' films of the 60's than it does with other LGBT films. |

That’s your reason for reviving a 2 year old thread?

While it is revived...
Call Me By You Name is well enough made, but IMHO it was just a very well produced film in a tired gay coming-of-age genre. It doesn't have the raw emotional power of films like Weekend and God's Own Country, which forgo the coming of age stuff and just do powerful, raw, modern love stories. No prizes for guessing which are my 2 favourite Queer Cinema films of the 2010s... ![]() Last edited by oddbox83; 05-24-2020 at 03:34 PM. |

CMBYN is set in gorgeous sunny Italy and has an American lead which helps explain its appeal. Yorkshire accents and rain and wind and cold, plus full frontal nudity and raw open honest sexuality put off your average middle American. unfortunately.

Which version is best to buy? UK or North American? The UK page says the movies is 105 min. The North American is 104 min "approx."
The US version has deleted scenes? Are the scenes cut as well from the UK version ? Thanks for your advise ! |
