Diskino will release Huang Jianxin's The Black Cannon Incident on blu-ray as part of WCL collection later this year.

The disc will feature the 2K restoration from Xi'an Film Studio and the original Mandarin LPCM Mono track.

- The English subtitles originally translated and newly corrected by Chris Berry

Is this available to preorder on Taobao?

Also what is the likelihood of Tian Zhuangzhuang's 'On The Hunting Ground' being released, from 1985?

I think it would be a great match with The Horse Thief and Tony Rayns spoke very highly of it.

actually Tony Rayns spoke very highly of The Red Elephant 1982.

I've seen this before and I'm quite curious how the foreigner would think of this film, since it's a sort of political satire of the Chinese society.
The pre-order is not available now but will be soon. It will be sold on Taobao for mainland China buyers and groupbuys for international buyers just like other Diskino releases.

It's so gentle a satire that it might not be obvious to western viewers that it even is a satire. I found it very dry and ponderous. And unless you're really into low-level local Chinese government politics there's really not much to recommend.

I wish they'd do low-price reissues, but still, these are lovely to have sitting on the shelf. Looking forward to receiving my copy.

It usually takes about a month after the official release in China before copies start to ship to group buyers. Hang in there.
