Default Question about Xbox Paramount announcement

Does the announcement by Paramount that they are releasing their catalog for download to the XBox marketplace beginning tomorrow mean they will avoid Blu altogether?

Please say no, but i was hoping more informed moderators might have some insight as opposed to the blip of a news story i read.

Disney has been releasing on XBOX live marketplace for quite some time, and they're true Blu. It's a whole different market.

No. Most of those movies are already in the US marketplace, now their just coming to the European marketplace. Don't worry about it.

For the life of me i still cant understand why people would want to download a movie!
Unless its a new release in the Cinema and you can watch straight away in your living room then yes great idea.
I have Sky HD Box @ Home with a 200GB hard drive, If i record a movie in HD (720p/1080i) it takes up about 7% which is a hell of a lot of space!

When did Paramount announce this? I haven't heard anything about this decision. Not calling you out or anything, I just haven't heard about this.

If they were to sign an exclusive for X-box that prohibited them from releasing on BD, the next shareholders meeting will be ugly.

downloads are for people who rent movies. Not for people who want to own the movie. Downloading is alot more convenient than running out to a store or waiting for a disc to arrive in the mail.

I do both: buy and rent. Those downloads can't replace renting Blu-ray from Netflix or somewhere else though. Why would I put up with a highly compressed sub-1080p movie on a new 1080p display? I think those downloads only compete with DVD rentals.

Back on topic, Paramount probably is negotiating with Toshiba about payment\refund details. They'll announce soon.

All this covers is HD Downloads on Xbox Live, which, once again, is separate from HD DVD or Blu-ray. Disney has movies for download on there. It even says they're following WB's lead on this, and we all know where they stand for HDM.

Nah, I don't come to that conclusion after reading it. Paramount will go Blu eventually. Some well informed insiders in this forum told me so!

Doesn't state anything regarding their stance on Blu. As for downloads, Warner, Disney, I think they are all in there, this should have no effect on Blu.

it reads to me as just a download announcement, remember paramount has issued blu-ray movies in the past and will do so again. Besides there are only a few movies in hd available and they are ex HD DVD encodes - low bit rate and poor audio

I hope people see that those downloads are poor 720p with very low bitrates ...
