Default The Sentinel (1977)

The Sentinel Blu-ray

Quote:
We are beyond thrilled today to report that we will be bringing the 1977 cult classic chiller THE SENTINEL to Blu-ray for the first time in the U.S. and Canada!

Planned release is for August. This often underrated, overlooked and shocking film from Director Michael Winner (Death Wish) has been highly-requested from fans over the years and is also a personal favorite for some of us here too.

Based on Jeffrey Konvitz's best-selling novel and featuring special make-up effects by Dick Smith (The Exorcist) the film sports an impressive number of well-known actors ever assembled together in horror film history including Chris Sarandon (Fright Night), Christina Raines (Nightmares, The Duelists) Christopher Walken (The Dead Zone), Ava Gardner (Earthquake, The Cassandra Crossing), Jeff Goldblum (The Fly), Jerry Orbach (Law & Order), Beverly D’ Angelo (National Lampoon’s Vacation), Sylvia Miles (The Funhouse), Burgess Meredith (Rocky, Burnt Offerings), Eli Wallach (The Magnificent Seven), Martin Balsam (Psycho), Tom Berenger (Major League), Jose Ferrer (The Caine Mutiny), John Carradine (The Howling, Shockwaves), Deborah Raffin (God Told Me To) and William Hickey (Tales From The Darkside: The Movie, Prizzi’s Honor).

No details to announce about upcoming extras but we can tease that we do have a special one already banked that will be a real treat for die-hard fans.

We hope you’re pleased with this exciting addition to our Scream Factory family and we have more new – as just as exciting - title announcements planned throughout the Spring and Summer so stay tuned!

Sweet, this is the best announcement they've made in a year IMO! Will definitely be getting this.

I own the german blu, which includes Winner's commentary track. Very interesting. He is certainly a character; very frank, even peremptory when it comes to his opinion on Ms Raines' lack of talent. I don't quite agree (even thought the great supporting cast tends to outshine her), but the lack of self-consciousness on his part is quite refreshing.

yes!!!!!!!!! take that naysayers... this is an "A" grade title! (one that was nixed several times in the past by the way so that opens the door for other possible "no's" previously)

I was so excited when I saw the announcement, easily the most exciting thing they've released since the Halloween collection for me. Is it safe to assume that this is going to be a Collector's Edition?

Someone asked, and the answer is...no.

Here's their reply:

Quote:
We anticipated this question. Unfortunately, the answer is no—but it’s not because we didn’t want to or we didn’t try. (“Believe me, this is one of my all-time favorite films and if anyone wanted it to be one, it would be me personally.” – Marketing Director, Jeff Nelson)

We had many discussions about what was achievable for us to do in terms of extras and found we were challenged in many areas (e.g. The Director and many cast & crew have passed away, lack of participation from key cast, etc.). Ultimately, we didn’t feel comfortable giving it the “CE” stamp and charging the higher price point knowing our limitations here.

Rest assured though that we will still have some good extras of course (we hinted at a really fascinating one in the main status update) just not as many as we would have ideally liked for.

The cast is fascinating, though most of these players appears in brief roles.

Some hot chick in the lead role.
Fright Night dude
Eli Wallach
John Carradine
Ava Gardner
Burgess Meredith
Arthur Kennedy
Martin Balsam
Sylvia Miles
Jose Ferrer
Christopher Walken
Jeff Goldblum

and Tom Beringer who plays a vital role.

It's a fun flick.

Don't forget Beverly D'Angelo in one of her unforgettable roles.

Lol! Definitely one the most WTF scenes I've seen in a horror film produced by major studio. In a very amusing way. How could I forget that one?.

I'll only buy this if it's an improvement over the existing German BD. But knowing Scream Factory will just use whaterver is given to them I highly doubt it'll be any better than the German release.
