Default Samsung HL-T5687S

hi
i just made my parents buy this tv Samsung HL-T5687S @ costco it was 1799.99 incl stand we had a 720p sony projection lcd tv before, but the problem im getting is that the print is not as clear as the old sony tv, like i have bell (canadian version of dish network) n the pic quality is not that good esp when there is movement it gets kinda blurry n pixels. When u check the guide lets say its the letter M n the M looks so jageddy not smooth like before, same with regular cable, and dvds, is it defective? and can anyone tell me what are the best specification settings 4 this tv? thanks so much 4 ur help

First off turn the shapness all the way down, and turn off "Dynamic" mode

How do you have it hooked up to the TV, and how big was your previous set? One thign to remember is that you're now looking at twice the pixels, and Dish Network, especially if you're not using the HD channels uses very high compression.

Here's my settings, keep in mind this was calibrated for a completely dark room. You should buy or rent ratatouille as soon as possible and use its tool to calibrate your TV

TV is the same as above except it's on standard instead of movie, with noise reduction and DNIe turned on, and dynamic contrast and black at medium

Mode - Movie
Contrast - 70
Brightness - 30
Sharpness - 0
Color - 45
Tint - G50/R50
Color Tone - Warm2
Detailed Settings
- Black Adjust - Off
- Dynamic Contrast - Off
- Gamma - 0
- White Balance - 0
- My Color Control - 15/15/15
- Edge Enhancement - Off
- xvYCC - Off
Size - Just Scan
Digital NR - Off
Active Color - Off
DNIe - Off
Color Gamut - sRGB
Game Mode - Off
HDMI Black Level - Normal
Film Mode - Off

I have the hlt5089s and have settings similar to Wicky's, but I like a little more "pop" to the picture as opposed to being more realistic or the industry standard. Most important thing is to get it off Dynamic, turn sharpness down to 0, and turn off edge enhancement. Here are my settings on post #13: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=36086.

I have to say the Sony's, in general, have better detail than these Samsungs. I bought the Sammy due to the amazing colors and the long life of the set. I also have an old hlp4674w Samsung DLP and I think it has a more detailed looking picture than my new one. I think a lot of this has to do with the flimsy screen Samsung used on these new sets, IMO.

That's your first problem, you have it hooked-up via S-Video and no HD. Get your set calibrated via ISF. Much better calibration by pulling more blues out of the whites and drawing on deeper blacks. Get a Plasma, you won't be disappointed.

The problem is not the TV, the problem is that your satellite compression is very high and you have it hooked up via S-Video. If you're watching just straight up french programming, then I doubt the sources are that great either, based on what I've seen of french programming when in Canada. and it's just going from bad to worse.
