My EB Games Experience

What's up guys?

There's been a few threads posted lately about how some EB Games / Gamestop employees have been giving BS stories about the PS3 ever since it was launched either to either sell another game, platform, warranty, etc. My experience with EB Games has always been great...until the days after PS3 was launched, 11/18/06. Bear with me guys, it's kinda long....


So I wasn't lucky enough to get my hands on a Playstation 3 at launch day, so I decided to search my local mall for any sign of it. No luck obviously, so I went to my local EB Games store I've been buying games from since the original playstation was released. (It was Software Etc back then). I walked in and started to check out PS3 games and accessories they had, whatever was left. As I approached the counter to ask if they had a PS3, some guy playing Gears of War on the 360 next to me asks the store manger (more on him in a minute) what game it was and for what console. The manger replies "that is Gears of War for the Xbox 360, the BEST game ever made in graphics, gameplay, and story on ANY system ever!" I quickly thought to myself, "has this guy ever even heard of Zelda or Super Mario?" and starting to laugh to myself

The guy in front of me then tells the customer playing not to listen, that he's only trying to sell you an Xbox 360 because they aren't the rage this Christmas the PS3 is. That's when all HELL broke loose!!! The manger shouts back at the guy telling him that he didn't know what he was saying and that PS3 was garbage and Sony couldn't even come up with enough systems as promised, that they lied about everything, the 360 was a more powerful, PS3 was hard to develope for, Blu-Ray sucked and would be the next Betamax, and that IGN had reviewed the console given it a 4.0 out of 10.0 (these were his exact words). After the IGN.com comment, I knew he was full of it. I check that site regularly and they hadn't reviewed it yet. The guy claimed to be a developer for games (workin for the 2K sports team, SIMS games, and some other company) Why the fudge was he working at EB Games then?? I asked myself. The question came out and he replied, "sometimes you need to work in every area of the gaming field to gain the most knowledge and experience" ..... but why in retail behind the counter??? LMAO!!!!

They went back and forth about PS3 being this and that, etc. The Xbox 360 being this "amazing" system easy to program for and eventually getting the bigger market share in videogames than Sony, etc etc. Everyone in the store tried to give their 2 cents about 360 whenever they could to sound important. After listening for about 10 min, I walked out the store and didn't even bother asking about the PS3.


I was just in shock to see how low an actual store manger (whether he was or not) yell and scream about this so ridiculous in front of all the customers. I haven't been there since. So it does indeed look like some employees will not only do anything to sell warranties or extra accessories, but also to sell an Xbox 360.
