Amazon Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

A new, live-action movie adaptation of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is to be directed by Jon M Chu (Wicked).

This will actually be the first movie version of the Tim Rice-Andrew Lloyd Webber musical to be brought to the big screen.

A made-for-video 1999 version with Donnie Osmond was never released to theaters; there were also plans at one point to make an animated version that ultimately never happened.

If Chu's Wicked is a big hit (which seems likely), then he will be able to follow up with one of the most popular children's musicals ever written.

Hopefully, Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, whose first collaboration this was, will still be around by the time the big-screen Joseph is released.

Quote:
Wicked filmmaker Jon M. Chu will direct a new film version of the famed Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat for Amazon Studios.

Chu will reunite with his In The Heights producing partner Scott Sanders to develop and shoot the musical treatment of the Old Testament tale of Joseph, who is driven from his home by his 11 jealous brothers.

Lloyd Webber’s Really Useful Group has long wanted to develop the show into a Hollywood spectacular and had been seeking partners to achieve that aim.
