Good movie and I will get this for sure. I just watched the BD maybe six months ago and was thinking how ragged it looked being from an old transfer, but didn't expect this on UHD BD.

The old transfer was not the issue, they ruined even that with DNR

The DNR was the biggest issue, but it still has some of those underlying older transfer characteristics I don't like.

Been waiting for a remastered BD, UHD even better. I went to see a 35mm print of this about 6 years ago and immediately fell in love with the film. I think it's strangely underappreciated, seems almost half-forgotten. I only knew of it vaguely before going to see it, but it's one of the best in the occult/mystery category.

Anyway the condition of the print was the worst I've ever seen, worse than prints from the '40s, and someone had deliberately scratched huge Xs across the entire image on a few frames. But what really struck me were the colors, which were still beautiful, the New Orleans scenes bathed in a bright, warm glow. The BD is much too dull.

It's well loved, but like you said it is mostly people in the know.
The demigod Nolan loves it, he said it was a massive influence on Memento.
This is miles better tho
