Default Toshiba Caught in a Lie!

This won't surprise anyone here but this is from the live coverage on Engadget...

Quote:
Q: How many HD DVD players and recorders, exactly, did you sell?
A: 600,000 players in the US -- 300,000 of which were Xbox 360 HD DVD drives. 100,000 units were sold in Europe. And about 10,000 players and 20,000 recorders in Japan. So about 730,000 units worldwide.
How many were they claiming to have sold? I seem to remember hearing they sold 1,000,000 units in one month, right? I guess they either had a lot of returns or they just lied through their teeth to make it seem like they were doing better than they really were.

Yet another point that might make it easier to sue them... Misleading the public. I guess, however, if there really were only what, 300,000 stand alone units sold in the US, the population of people waiting to sue them is probably a lot smaller than I originally thought.

What about PC drives? I dont know how many they sold, probably not a ton, but those dont seem to be counted in that total.

I believe you are thinking of the nearly 100,000 in one month. That was from the firesale before Christmas. Lot of good it did them!

Not surprising. Toshiba/HD DVD PRG have never been good with numbers.

Depending on how you view the figures, both could be correct. Are they talking wholesale or retail? Does that include pre-order "sales"? I don't know. It's a moot point at this time.

So they sold a total of 300,000 units and they took a bath on at least 100,000 of them in December? LOL! Actually, they took a bath on each sale, I suppose.

Toshiba is a laughingstock. They'll even be more so when they come knocking and want to join the BDA.

They dont need to come knocking, the BDA already invited them, or did you miss that news yesterday?

The difference between 1M and 730K is 270K.

Do you really think PC drive sold as many as HDDVD standalone?

No sir This thing goes DEEP. I had it cranked so that I could set the level and EQ. While I was listening (Cystal Method I think) it rattled a ceramic frog off of my shelf on the wall
