Awesome! So a new remaster on the theatrical! The theatrical was only in Standard Definition on the import. Now I will have to double dip this one.

If you like the original Battlestar Galactica (1978), you will probably like this. It's very campy and just silly but it's fun and has nostalgic value for me as I watched it when I was a kid.

So just to clarify.... is this the announcement that most people were guessing Night Gallery or The Night Stalker? Or is there another announcement coming this weekend?

Yes. This is the 70s Universal TV show that Kino Lorber Insider has been teasing for the last year.

I was a huge fan of this show when it first came out. Being a seven year-old kid in 1979, this one hit the sweet spot with me in every way.

Robots? Check.
Monsters? Check.
Spaceships? Check.
A future world? Check.
Erin Gray...an early childhood crush? Check.

I had been holding off on the Australian release, so I'm all in for this.

I was 9 at the time and absolutely loved Buck Rogers and BSG. Had figures from both shows and loved playing with them along with my SW figures. Isn't nostalgia great!!

I'd be all over this set if I didn't already own the AU set.

I, too, have the Australian Madman bluray release of Buck Rogers. The new 2k scan of the theatrical sounds enticing! May just have to double-dip especially if the forthcoming extras/details make it too irresistable.

Nice job, Kino.

I loved this as a kid, but haven't seen it since the early 80s. Does it hold up?

About 15 years ago or so, the American Cinematheque in Hollywood hosted a screening of the movie with a bunch of cast and crew. (The Q&A was amazing and hilarious and everyone told very funny and scandalous stories.) They hid envelopes under the seats for five or so people to win prizes and I was one of them. The prize was the complete series on DVD (which was just coming out).

I watched a few episodes and I was kind of bored. The nostalgia and kitsch factor wears off fairly quickly. That being said, I was much more of a Battlestar Galactica fan back then, though I did watch Buck Rogers. But I also found the Battlestar Galactica episodes a slog to sit through as an adult. The one thing Buck Rogers has going for it that Battlestar didn't was a sense of humor about itself.

I would say if you are a big, big fan of BR, then get it. But if you're getting it for nostalgia sake, skip it.

In my opinion, of course, the movie is fantastic and holds up eally well, as does the first season (which has the highest cheese factor of any show I can recall). The second season, with the introduction of Hawk and an ill-conceived attempt to become Star Trek (the "Searcher") is an absolute struggle to get through (Galactica 1980 is a classic in comparison, again IMO). That being said, I am all over this for the movie and first season...
