Default Beyond the Black Rainbow - Sep 11, 2012

Despite being under heavy sedation, Elena tries to make her way out of Arboria, a secluded, quasi-futuristic commune.

I loved this film! It's just the kind of stylish horror I love and would recommend it to any genre fan.

It's not for everyone though. I saw it at a film festival in early 2011 where I felt like it just left most of the viewers confused. Afterwards, one audience member even asked the director what the film was about. So, viewers that will look for a coherent plot will be lost, viewers willing to just experience the film's visual style (as seen in the trailer), unique composition and genuinely creepy atmosphere will certainly be pleased.

I just watched this. It is really something else. I really liked it, though that can be attributed to the fact that I like these kinds of movies. Definitely not for everyone. I can see why so many people are put off by it and therefore that's where it's low ratings come from. If you go into it for just an experience it's like nothing else. You come across very few movies that are like this. I also really like how it's such a great throwback with its grain, colors, and synthed out score and sound effects just its overall feel is great. Can't wait to pick up this blu-ray to re-watch and hear it in lossless surround sound!

What the Hell kind of name is Panos Cosmatos?!? From his IMDb pic, he looks like he should be on the No Fly List.

I read an interview he did and he is actually the son of director George P. Cosmatos. George P. Cosmatos did Rambo: First Blood Part II, Cobra, Leviathan, and Tombstone. At least those are what he was most known for. Panos does look like he could go for a good haircut and shave. Can't wait to see what else he ends up doing as I really liked Beyond The Black Rainbow!

Just saw this after at least a year of patiently waiting.

In a word...IMPRESSIVE! Considering the budget and the fact that most of the effects (including the lighting) were done practically AND in-camera, I am really blown away by the look of this film. Absolutely unique and unforgettable. The Carpenter meets Kraftwerk synth score was absolutely perfect as well. I hope that a soundtrack gets released at some point. I have the menu with the music playing on a loop up on my TV right now and can't bring myself to turn it off because it is so hypnotic and haunting.

Anyone that wants an EXPERIENCE and enjoys experimental / weird cinema, please seek this out. Those that strictly enjoys narrative films, this is probably not for you.

I hope Cosmatos gets noticed as a result of this film and gets more opportunities to bring more of this kind of cinema to the world!

Also, anyone that is disappointed by the lack of commentary, there are several good interviews with Cosmatos on the internet. Just do a quick Google search.

Ah you're in for a treat then. This film most certainly isn't for everyone but I really dug it for it's originality, trippy visual style and haunting score.

Something funny about this movie: theres a moment in this movie where a couple new characters are introduced in such an out of place way, I literally said out loud "I bet that's the director" a couple days later I looked at the imdb and sure enough, that was him.

My girlfriend had shown me this movie and I had no idea what it was. My initial reaction was kind of negative aside from the visuals and music which were great. I kind of got the feeling it was a very long very slow music video. Maybe I'll give it another watch at some point because its certainly stuck in my mind.

Plus it's one of the most genuinely creepy ones I've ever seen.

The score is one of the things I'm most excited about! I like these kinds of movies so I'm hoping I'll enjoy it.

Having been wanting to see this for a few years now and fresh off seeing Mandy, I finally pulled the trigger and ordered a copy through Best Buy.

Default Mondo VHS cover

Did anyone spring for the Mondo VHS tape of the film? I was hoping to get a scan of the cover if anyone has it; looking to modify the artwork and make a custom blu-ray cover.
