Post Pioneer Elite BDP-LX500

You heard it first on Blu-ray.com

Just today I was able to confirm Pioneer's Elite BDP-LX500 will launch in the USA this October for $999, delivered nationwide. Here's the first image of the USA version of Pioneer's Elite BDP-LX500 Universal BD player:

You may have seen early prototype images before, but not with Pioneer's Elite USA Gold escutcheon markings, enhanced dampening feet and chassis.

Here's the link to our dedicated BDP-LX500 page with more information.

This player will make its USA showing at CEDIA and of course soon after at Value Electronics.

Nice to see another premium unit but I’m sticking with the king.

Hmmm, Same price point as the Panasonic UB-9000. Interesting.

Robert, any pics of the back with all the ports?

Any early discussion by Pioneer of other HDR format support, besides HDR10?

Other than the additional information I put up on our LX500 web page I do not know anything else at this time. Pioneer tells me this is a Universal UHD BD player so I would think that means HDR10 and Dolby Vision at a minimum.

I requested more pictures so hopefully we have more images shortly.

Robert that implies it supports SACD and DVD-Audio like its predecessors. Likely using a MTK SoC which would support DV.

Looks cool but not $1,000 cool, Panasonic will be the new king of UHD Blu-ray players.

But, low latency Dolby Vision?

It's another one of the questions I asked my Pioneer contacts.

For a grand you would think they wouldn't use a display that looks like it was made in 1998.

If it Mediatek based, it would include that just as other vendors are getting the additional profile for use with capable Sony TV's.

I don't see this selling any better than the OPPO UDP-203 (nor the 205 for that matter).

But Pioneer/Onkyo has an entire line of products and the infrastructure to support it. So they have virtually no incremental costs (outside of player design and manufacturing) to keep the player distributed and supported. OPPO just had the players, headphones and headphone amps. It probably wasn't enough to keep the company going in the U.S.

I don't see any SACD/DVD-A logos on the player itself, nor do I see anything listed under the audio features regarding the aforementioned audio formats on Roberts webpage. Could be early and they're still working out the kinks. But if they're not touting those features by now, I doubt we'll be seeing them on this player. Then again, I could be entirely wrong as my wife likes to keep reminding me.

Not when it comes to 'universal' disc spinning support.

Indeed, their upcoming new flagship '9000' model wont spin DVD-A or SACD's...

Just got confirmation of SACD audio and Hi Res audio decoding on Pioneer's new LX500 BD player. Also updated my website to show the SACD and Hi Res audio capability.

That doesn't matter. The masses didn't want to spend $550 on a BD player. What would make one think that they would spend $1,000 on this one?
