Germany Manta Manta 4K UHD (Nameless)

Very happy with this (transfer and compression) and just sharing some pics mostly, if not exclusively , for my German fellows.

Thanks for the caps & recommendation. This looks like a gigantic upgrade. Yes, that’s indeed the word as the Constantin BD is horrendously encoded. They turned this beautiful master into pixel mush.

I’m still surprised the Nameless encode turned out better, which is something these Mediabook and packaging collector labels (and their key buyer group) usually don’t care about. Maybe by accident but hopefully not.

This bodes well for the Werner films but the utterly ridiculous prices they’re asking is a no-go. I’ll make an exception for Manta though while hoping that they maybe get a couple other Constantin titles for future 4K releases, such as Schuh des Manitu tied-in with the sequel.

Mind you that I first had C of part 1 ordered (A was already gone at jpc when I found out that these are being sold now), then also added the others as C, then cancelled them all again , then ordered A of part 1 when available at jpc again, then added the other As at jpc as well because meh, I want them all. But it was one of my not so rare dances.

The real life stuff of 1 looks very good as well - only took a very brief look. More I cannot really say yet, but it seems as if I won't regret this. I also only owned 1 on Blu-ray (wouldn't have bought 2-5 otherwise) and I get at least 5% off at jpc, so fook the New Year's resolutions.

The compression of the 4K actually is rather subpar and I'm sure you won't be as happy as I am, but it looks fine to me in motion and I also did expect worse. And this will be it anyway. But at this price point the compression should be better for sure, so waiting for a cheaper regular release is most likely the wise thing to do. I just didn't want to wait - risk of missing out is pretty low though IMO.

Thanks again. Caps still look better than what I expected. I’ll take anything better than the BD and will give it a try as I really like the film.

The saving grace is that these Mediabooks are all limited, numbered and mostly sold-out, so in case a standard edition comes out later, these could be sold at a relatively good price to packaging collectors.

Take these 2 for ex and you'll know what I mean:

But it's the kind of stuff that looks fine to me in motion and beggars can't be choosers.

jpc still has the CE for 39,99 €. Got mine for 37,99 € from them via my 5% discount. Same price as the Werners. Totally overpriced, but yes, I guess you could also always sell them.

C (above) is IMO also the best artwork. I usually prefer the original, but didn't like the look of it on youtube.

I'm sad that these and the Werner films don't have English subtitles. Apparently, Constantin's 2023 Blu-ray of the sequel does have them:

but their 2020 Blu-ray of the original film doesn't (though it seems to have added German SDH where the DVDs had no subtitles at all):

And then the Nameless 4K UHD discs dropped the English subtitles for the second film:

Oh well, at least I should be able to watch the Hagen film next month.

Watched Manta Manta the other day and wow, it looks great on 4K. The colors are vibrant and the image quality is simply fantastic for such an old german movie.

I've add the other Mediabook cover variants, they should show up soon (also for Zwoter Teil), just need to check if everything is right once it is up. ( so many variants )

I got myself the Cover B variant (for both movies) but maybe will get the D variant bundle that comes with the slip box as well.
