I love this film, but I prefer the 132m US cut over the Criterion Director's Cut. The 10 minutes of cuts really make the film flow a lot better and make the ending more suspensful, imo. If the new Criterion includes all three cuts (omitting the love conquers all) of US, International, Director's Cut than I could get behind it. That being said, the Universal BD of the 132m cut is highly recommended, especially if you never viewed the film before. I'd recommend the Director's Cut only for a later viewing because it sort of ruins the suspense of the ending.

Brazil is a film I watch maybe once every five years. Passing on this one.

I've heard a few people raving about this film but I have never seen it. Checked out the trailer on YouTube. Wow. This thing looked like Blade Runner meets Alice in Wonderland!

Can't wait!

I've only seen the cut that's available from Criterion so I don't know what I'm missing.

I doubt they'll add any new extras (the 3-disc DVD set is pretty packed!) but a new interview with Jonathan Pryce and/or Michael Palin would be very much appreciated.

I'm fine with my Universal blu-ray. I prefer the theatrical cut, anyway.

I'm really looking forward to this. Easily my favorite Gilliam film. I've kept my Criterion DVD set (Which was just the laserdisc set repackaged) in case Criterion never got to release it on Blu.

For those who haven't seen it, I suggest doing so and also watching all of the special features from the Criterion set. More specifically the documentary Battle Of Brazil. The films history and release is just as fascinating, and somewhat parallels the ideas in the film. I'd love for those features to be in true HD, if possible.

Ah man, this is awesome news.

Alas, I've already triple dipped on this, with the Criterion 3-disc DVD, the Universal Blu-Ray, and then the UK Blu-Ray. So now I got a five disc set for this movie.

I...must...resist........quadruple...dipping...

Thanks for the news OP!
I still don't know if I'm going to let go of my DVD set.
Unless Criterion matches or improves upon the previous packaging and supplemental features, I can't see myself ever getting rid of it. I'll have to find a way to combine all the discs into the original DVD packaging.
