The Flaming Lips’ 2002 best-selling album, available for the first time on Blu-Ray in Dolby ATMOS, 5.1 Mix & Hi-Res Stereo.

The Atmos has been mixed by Dave Fridmann & Atmos engineering & mastering by Jon Fridmann. The DTS-HD 5.1 Mix mixed by Dave Fridmann & Elliot Scheiner, and DTS-HD 2.0 Hi-Res Stereo mixes by Dave Fridmann.

Inside the package is a booklet with an excerpt from an interview by Wayne Coyne with Jon and Dave Fridmann, discussing the Atmos mixing and listening experience.

This is released on 1 November 2024, via Rhino.

I think the first few seconds of "Fight Test" cut out on the original DTS 5.1 from the DVD-Audio. Hopefully they don't repeat that here.

I don't expect a conservative mix with The Lips, I expect stuff bouncing all over the place, which is what I want from this band.

Zaireeka would be amazing in ATMOS.

Zaireeka definitely needs the ATMOS treatment.

Anyone know of a good site to track these ATMOS album releases? This like others in the past came out of nowhere as i just heard about this one yesterday and im glad i did 🙂

Holy Shit this ATMOS mix is amazingly bonkers 😀 I haven’t listened to a ton of ATMOS albums or blu-ray audio in general but this one tops them all.

You've definitely got to check this one out if you're enjoying the Atmos mix of Flaming Lips - this is the top of the pile for me as far as demo material goes and I really enjoy the album as well.

The ATMOS is awesome. The album is still great after all these years. I bought two CDs when it was released, one for the car that didn't leave my sony discman for months and one for the home stereo. Good times. It is funny that it took this album for me to discover the Lips considering I am from Oklahoma and have lived here most of my life. During the 1990s I was out of state and had just returned when I read an interview with David Bowie and he was praising the Yoshimi album so I ran out and picked up the CD. Saw them a bit later in OKC live.

I bought this and have to say I am a bit disappointed. I don't find it nearly as good as the DVD-Audio release from back in the day. Both in terms of the surround mix or the low end. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks, I was curious about that. I have the DVD-A, which not only sold me on the format back in the day, but remains my favorite DVD-A.

I also have the DVD-A and was considering double dipping this album for the Atmos mix... probably still will because it's fairly cheap and I don't have many BD-As
