Well, a surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one. Makes one wonder, if we'll get F'd in the A, if they release a 4K of "Columbo?"

Honestly...the Turbine set is enough and I think as far as it's an entertaining series (but not too much, the season with Rebecca Holden in my humble opinion is the best as overall quality of the stories), a 4k set is too much for me.

I'm good with the Turbine set since it's amazing. At 97+ hours with the episodes and bonus features on 20 UHD's? Good luck with that compression Universal!

The Turbine set is also 20 discs plus a bonus one full of interviews. Assuming Universal uses BD100s, combined with the HVEC compression and I think they're in a much better spot.

Jesus - I'd hate to have been the designed whom was lumbered with putting that Hoff pic on - it looks like the floating face from 3D favourite The Mask!

It's a mongrel of a photo to blend, but they could have at least tried to make it look as though his head was behind glass.

Well this looks like another version for me to compare to with the Turbine set which I did extensively.

Great news that it is coming to 4K, I'm glad Universal (or someone) stumped up the cash to re scan the negatives which are hopefully the original camera negatives again, as good as the existing HD master is, technology has moved on a long way since they were scanned.

The key thing is, I hope the team behind it actually put in the care in restoring, colour grading it and QC it properly.

That's the thing that stood out on the Turbine set, they paid attention to things like missing sound effects, cues and mirrored shots that shouldn't have been and fixed a lot of them.

Key things I hope are done on this

• A tasteful HDR grading, no/very little use of DNR of the image
• Original Mono (S1-S3) and Stereo (S4) tracks present if a 5.1 Remix is done
• ALL Original as aired music is present like the Turbine set
• ALL episodes are the as aired versions and not the syndicated edits
• As many editing errors fixed from the original negatives (This will be subjective as some may like it to be a purists version)

Yeah I'm fairly certain the Turbine set will be the definitive one when it comes to corrections/music replacements/syndicated episodes etc. Universal will likely just scan and dump it all on disc without much effort.

But it should look rather great in 4K with HDR...

It's great that TV shows are now hitting 4K, I wasn't expecting this until at least another 2 or 3 years as there are still a ton of back catalogue films without a 4k release.

To me as long as the OG Negs or first gen IP still exists then ANYTHING is possible on 4K as long as someone stumps up the cash or are willing to do the restoration work.
