Done
Hopefully they will do it.

Bwana Devil
Please work with 3-D film Archive to covert this to the new 3D bluray format or another company. These old 3D movie deserve to preserved and shown in they way they were in the theater.

We can do it for the best price and have the stereoscopic expertise to deliver the optimum results. Our first two releases on 3-D blu-ray speak for themselves.

Thanks for the info Robert. Those glasses being available way back then show they knew how to present 3D in the best way possible with the advanced technology they had for the time.
Nice to see this one is in color also to make it visually more exciting in 3D.

Full color polarized 3-D was first shown publicly on January 30, 1936.

Good to know, thanks! 1936. I can imagine if Wizard of Oz was originally presented in color in 1937 and in stereo 3D. That would have been something to experience back then for the advancements in the film industry.

what is even the point of releasing it without 3d? That's the whole significance of the film and probably the main reason anyone would want to see it.

Shout! Factory put out a release of Amityville 3d, so they may not be averse to releasing this in that format, although I gather there were various issues with that release.

Hopefully they'll see the value in doing a 3d release, and if all goes well this will encourage them to be more open to other 3d titles.

Sent email and twisted a few other arms to do the same. It is mindboggling that anyone would not release BWANA DEVIL in 3D Blu ray. I know Shout Factory had trouble with Amityville 3D, but the 3D Film Archive can handle BWANA DEVIL, their releases of Dragonfly Squadron and The Bubble prove they can properly release 3D blu ray on a budget.

I sent them a email as well echoing what others have mentioned in this thread. Hope Shout heeds all of our words and gives this flick the 3D treatment it rightfully and deservingly deserves.

I just did the same. I was a 10 year old when these films were released and saw them in the theatre! Loved 'em.

This is what I sent to them:

Hi, I heard that you are releasing Bwana Devil on blu ray but not in 3D. As a big fan of vintage 3D and 3D in general, I would hope that you would consider releasing this film on blu ray and in 3D. I'm sure that I speak for others when I say that what's the point of releasing a film that is infamous for its 3D without it. I won't purchase the movie if it is not in 3D.

Fellas, keep the e-mails flowing to SF.

I sent a second as well:

Bwana Devil - Heard that your company is planning on releasing this film but not in 3D?!?!?! MANY of us 3D purists and fans know that this film is meant to be seen in 3D as it was originally intended. Furthermore, MANY of us 3D purists and fans WONT even consider buying this release if it's not given a 3D blu release. PLEASE STRONGLY reconsider giving this film a 3D blu release.

Thank you for your time and consideration

The problem is their last two 3-D blu-ray releases did not do well so they're reluctant to do another.

AMITYVILLE 3-D was badly mastered and was in a box set with two flat films.

SECTOR 7 is a science-fiction film from Korea.

BWANA may not be a great film but it's important in the history of stereoscopic cinema. The title is instantly recognizable.

There is no existing 3-D master so we would need to do HD scans of the left/right materials and fix it shot-by-shot. As we have shown with THE BUBBLE and DRAGONFLY SQUADRON, we can create an optimum 3-D master for a great price.

For me it wouldn't exactly be a boycott... not about 'voting with your wallet' or denying something I want to send a message. If they were to release Bwana Devil flat, it just wouldn't be something I could justify spending money on.

I have about as much interest in watching a 2d Bwana Devil as I have in seeing a silent version of The Jazz Singer.

On the other hand, a watchable 3d Blu-ray of Bwana Devil would be an instabuy. Region-free would be nice, but other than that, it's a no-questions-asked must-have.

Good point.
I held off on Beowulf for blu ray until it became available on blu ray 3D, many years later at last (2014). Though I had the DVD version, knowing a 3D theatrical version existed, there was little chance I'd pay for a 2D blu ray.

Would you be able to license the film for release in other countries or do Shout have a worldwide license? If you could release it elsewhere and not region locked I am sure us 3D fans will import it. This film must be released in 3D!
