Universal Studios Jarhead 4K UHD

Universal will be releasing Jarhead (2005) on 4K UHD for its 20th Anniversary! It will come in both Standard and Steelbook packaging. I'll update the post with artwork, and other info as it comes in.

Quote:
Jarhead is a film about a US Marine Anthony Swofford’s experience in the Gulf War. After putting up with an arduous boot camp, Swofford and his unit are sent to the Persian Gulf where they are eager to fight, but are forced to stay back from the action. Swofford struggles with the possibility of his girlfriend cheating on him, and as his mental state deteriorates, his desire to kill increases.

Saw this back in 05 but don’t remember it well.

Want to refresh my memory more before buying, but glad it’s coming to 4k as I believe it got good reviews. I always enjoy a good war movie.

Edit: reviews for it are fair

This should be another amazing release. Deakins used a bleach bypass and pushed it even further in the DI, which is natively 4K. Love Universal’s release choices at the moment.

Here’s what Deakins said about the process when asked:
Quote:
The cinematographer did argue strongly for a 4K scan. “That may seem strange, considering that I wanted a more raw image. But I did some tests, and the 4K actually makes the grain feel sharp.”

Always enjoyed this one, an underrated Mendes pic (along with Revolutionary Road). My DVD can breathe its last.

Mendes and Deakins - one thing's for sure, it'll look dang lurvelly.

Shame I could never get into the movie itself. Someone wake me when Paramount releases the real Mendes masterpiece - American Beauty. Or when Disney release t'other Mendes masterpiece - Road to Perdition. Then I will squeal with delight.

Did Road to Perdition move to Disney in the US? The Paramount BD is still available as of right now.

I'm in the UK, so it's always been a 20th Century Foxney title here. Didn't realise it was with a different studio in the USA. Oh well, I guess that increases our chances of getting a 4K UHD release, albeit a shit one

IIRC he even said that he didn't get more detail out of it, but kept it 4K for the grain as you say.

They did a 4k DI way back in 2005. One of the first. So that is very likelywhat we’re getting here plus DV pass. And it has nice sharp grain according to Deakins.
