I guess in the scheme of things a double dip for Mr. Smith Goes to Washington isn't the end of the world. Very hopeful this set will, somehow, actually all be in 4K, considering Sony putting those random pre-code/silent movies on the Volume 5 set as well in 4K.

It Happened One Night may be another overlap with the Columbia Classics sets (released in Vol. 3).

Oh right, I forgot that one too, haha! Mr. Deeds Goes To Town happens to be my favorite of these, and I think that along with You Can't Take It With You are the absolute most likely new additions to 4K, so this remains very exciting nonetheless even if it's just those two and new BDs of the rest - but still, we can dream...

Ford at Fox vibes!!! I love it.
This Columbia 100 celebration has been really good. I wish more 70s cinema and noirs, but i’ll take what Sony is doing.

As far as Frank Capra's Columbia films, these seem to be what Sony owns/which silent films of his survive (two of his Columbia sound films, Broadway Bill and Lady For A Day, appear to no longer be with Sony rights-wise). If this is correct, it would seem all but (1?) will be on there. Currently it seems they own 22 of his films:

Released on DVD/Blu-ray/4K prior (13 films total):

The Matinee Idol (1928)
Ladies Of Lesiure (1930)
Rain Or Shine (1930)
The Miracle Woman (1931)
Platinum Blonde (1931)
Forbidden (1932)
American Madness (1932)
The Bitter Tea Of General Yen (1933)
It Happened One Night (1934)
Mr. Deeds Goes To Town (1936)
Lost Horizon (1937)
You Can't Take It With You (1938)
Mr. Smith Goes To Washington (1939)

Not released on video in the U.S. (9 total):

So This Is Love? (1928)
That Certain Thing (1928)
The Way Of The Strong (1928)
Submarine (1928) (silent film with synchronized score/sound effects discs, sound discs now apparently lost, film itself survives)
The Power Of The Press (1928)
The Younger Generation (1929) (part-talkie, a restored version was on TCM I believe years ago)
The Donovan Affair (1929) (mute film survives, soundtrack now lost)
Flight (1929)
Dirigible (1931)

I'm extremely curious what of this will be in 4K and if any of the new titles will be available separately. An entire set might be a bit of a hard sell for me considering his two (arguably) biggest at Columbia were already in the Classics sets, but it'll also depend on what the UHD vs. HD distribution looks like. In any case I'm glad they're doing this, and thanks for sharing!!

I'd prefer standalone releases since I already have It Happened One Night and Mr. Smith Goes to Washington on UHD.

Pricing appears to be in line with the Columbia Classics sets.

Released on DVD/Blu-ray/4K prior (13 films total):

The Matinee Idol (1928)
Ladies Of Lesiure (1930)
Rain Or Shine (1930)
The Miracle Woman (1931)
Platinum Blonde (1931)
Forbidden (1932)
American Madness (1932)
The Bitter Tea Of General Yen (1933)
It Happened One Night (1934)
Mr. Deeds Goes To Town (1936)
Lost Horizon (1937)
You Can't Take It With You (1938)
Mr. Smith Goes To Washington (1939)

Not released on video in the U.S. (9 total):

So This Is Love? (1928)
That Certain Thing (1928)
The Way Of The Strong (1928)
Submarine (1928) (silent film with synchronized score/sound effects discs, sound discs now apparently lost, film itself survives)
The Power Of The Press (1928)
The Younger Generation (1929) (part-talkie, a restored version was on TCM I believe years ago)
The Donovan Affair (1929) (mute film survives, soundtrack now lost)
Flight (1929)
Dirigible (1931)
What about Meet John Doe? Bob Furmanek has mentioned on numerous occasions on HTF that he found the OCN for that film and donated it to UCLA, where he claims it is under Sony’s control.

Individual cases we think?

Also, I love his film ... Rain or Shine.... about the circus.

Hopefully this means that Mr. Deeds goes to town and You can't take it with you gets UHD release. Those two are my top 5 Capra's movies

It was indeed originally distributed by Warner Bros., so I suppose whether or not this will be included will come down to how strict or not Sony/Columbia is with their "Columbia 100" releases in including non-Columbia stuff (like how WB did with including M-G-M and RKO films for their 100th last year), since this appears to be part of that general trend of "Columbia 100" releases this year. Given the name of this set seems to be moreso referencing Capra's work at Columbia, unfortunately I don't think it's likely Meet John Doe will be included.

Mr. Deeds Goes to Town, Lost Horizon, and You Can't Take It With You (all three presumably in 4K) would knock out three more on Sony's 2020 survey. A boxed set is interesting especially if it is a mixed box of 4K and blu-ray. Hoping for individual releases at some point but not holding my breath.

That's awesome if it's true. Capra is one of a kind

Paramount bought Broadway Bill from Columbia when they made the remake, Riding High. This used to be standard practice when making remakes in Hollywood. I think Lady for a Day is in the public domain, but I could be wrong.

I now know what I'm getting my grandmother for Christmas. Lost Horizon is one of her all time favorites, and she's never seen some of the films in this set despite being a huge fan of Turner Classic Movies (the one network my family keeps cable for). Mr. Smith would be an upgrade all the way from VHS to 4K as far as my collection is concerned.
