How much better with the Bravia 8 be compared to the A80L?

Other than Sony's new BRAVIA 8 having LG Display's new 2024 OLED module that is brighter than the 2023 OLED panel and Sony also upgraded built-in audio actuators, the BRAVIA 8 has the following new features:

Always hear clear dialog, even in loud action scenes, with Sony's new Voice Zoom 3™

Pair BRAVIA TV with one of Sony's new 2024 BRAVIA Theater sound system to unlock Acoustic Center Sync for elevated audio and clearer dialog. Sony's new 2024 BRAVIA sound bar and the new Quad Theater audio system are nice upgrades from Sony's very excellent 2023 soundbars and the HT-A9.

Use BRAVIA Connect app to easily control your BRAVIA TV from your smartphone and change volume, picture settings, and even troubleshoot issues.

I also like the new 4 position stand and the upgraded build quality and fit and finish.

Sony's new 2024 BRAVIA 8 OLED TV comes in 77", 65" and 55" screen sizes.

Sony's 83" A80L will carry over for the 2024 model year. The 83" A80L is the only A80L that has Sony's 83" A90J chassis and heat sync.

Robert, can you turn the TV off/on with the app? Also how many 120Hz connections does the TV have? Is one the eARC?

I beleive you can power the BRAVIA 8 on and off with the connect app, but I'll try it when we receive Sony's 1st allocation next week and get back here to confirm.

Yes the BRAVIA 8 has 2 full HDMI 2.1 input ports that support 4K at 120Hz. If you need more HDMI 2.1 inputs and don't have a HDMI 2.1 compatible A/V receiver we offer Marantz's 1x3 HDMI 2.1 matrix switch for $199., which increases your full HDMI 2.1 inputs to 4 fully capable 48Gbps inputs.

We just received Sony's very first allocation/shipment of the new BRAVIA 8 OLED TV.

Sony's BRAVIA 8 renders images that look exactly like real life!

I don’t mean to be suspicious, but why is the 77 less expensive than the $5000 77 (Presumably from last year) which I had my eye on ?

Sony's XR-77A95L is Sony's flagship Master Series QD OLED TV.

The BRAVIA 8 is Sony's new 2024 OLED TV and the flagship A95L will carry over for the 2024 model year and is now on sale for $4,799.

What Robert says here is of course entirely correct.

There is some confusion about Sony's OLED TVs, but to sum it up: the A95L, which uses a QD-OLED panel, carries over as the flagship OLED for 2024. It was released so late in 2023 that it can almost be considered more of an "early 2024" model, and there won't be time for an update until next year at earliest.

The Bravia 8 is the next step down from the A95L. It occupies that upper mid-range/lower high-end space in the range, and is the successor to last year's A80L. Just like previous 8/80 series OLEDs, it uses a WRGB panel. So it's not meant to compete with or replace the A95 series.

Nice review, but not sure why they evaluated and compared the BRAVIA 8 to LG's last year, 2023 G3, which is LG's flagship OLED TV with the new enhanced MLA that would be more suitable to compare to Sony's flagship A95L, QD OLED TV.

So considering their review is based on the performance difference of the high-end MLA OLED and not LG's C4 series WRGB OLED, which is what the BRAVIA 8 OLED TV is I'd say this makes Sony's BRAVIA 8 an exceptional value/performance choice for all video enthusists.

Where do you see the comparison to the G3? From what I see under "Compared to Others", they primarily compare it to the C4. After the C4, they also compare it to the Bravia 9, A80L, A95L, G4, Bravia 7 and S90D.

Their verdict:

Quote:
The Sony BRAVIA 8 is an amazing TV overall, but it doesn't really stand out in the crowd of OLED TVs. Unlike the top-tier Sony A95L OLED, which uses a QD-OLED panel, the BRAVIA 8 uses a traditional WOLED panel and doesn't use MLA for increased brightness like the LG G4 OLED. It's most comparable to the LG C4 OLED, but it's not as bright in HDR and doesn't support 4k @ 144Hz, and it has surprisingly worse accuracy in SDR and HDR. It's also a bit more expensive than the C4, and since the C4's image processing is pretty much on par with BRAVIA 8's, it's the better choice for almost everyone.

Sony's new 77" BRAVIA 8 OLED TV prices just got reduced the price for 13 days starting today.

So now the all in delivered prices for Sony's 77" BRAVIA 8 OLED TV is now $3,299.00.

Sony's flagship A95L Master Series QD OLED TVs are also on sale for 65" $3,299., 55" $2,599.

I want a Bravia 8 really badly since I don't want to splurge for an A95L. It looks far better than the YouTube reviewers claim. That smooth screen and the video processing are top notch and a much bigger improvement over the A80L from last year. They really hit it out of the park this year.

I'm about to part ways with my current employer so I'm holding off buying this gorgeous tv.

What makes it better than the A80L? Debating on one of those now.

Sony's new 2024 BRAVIA 8 OLED TV has Sony's new 2nd generation of the XR processor.

Sony's new 2nd Generation of the XR SoC processor now has XR Clear that focuses on low bit rate, low resolution, and compressed streaming content and sends more bits to decode and render the best possible picture quality from all content.

Sony's new 2nd Generation of the XR SoC processor also now has Sony's new XR Contrast Enhancer.

The new BRAVIA 8 has LG's new 2024 OLED module that is brighter than the previous OLED panel and the new panel also is more engery efficent and generates less heat.

HDTVTest review:

Interestingly, he echoes what others like Rtings have said, that the LG C4 is the overall superior mid-range OLED TV this year. And based on his findings reported here, I think I would probably agree.
