Besides this, The Cartel, Wraiths of the Broken Land, All the Money in the World and the gazillion Alien: Covenant sequels?

The number of things he gets himself attached to at age 79 just gets more and more hilarious. Good for him.

Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Remake of the old Michael Caine one? That had a hell of a cast, wonder who they'll get to fill those shoes....

In related news, Ridley Scott announces expectations that he will live to be 150 years old.

Perhaps he will be the English-speaking version of Manoel de Oliveira, still making movies in his 100s.

Fair play Ridley, guy has far more energy than me. He's very inspiring. I've enjoyed all of his historical epics so I look forward to this.

Yes, we need another movie about the evil nazi's, as if we don't have enough movies about the evil nazi's.

If Dunkirk underperforms this summer, expect the plug to be pulled on this one faster than a blitzkrieg.

I agree - that genre has been kind to him and his fans. Gladiator and Kingdom of heaven(DC!) are two of my all-time favs. He usually does great with these kinds of movies. *Usually*

I expect Dunkirk to be marketed properly and find its audience, especially analogue IMAX showings.

As a lifelong student of Nazi Germany's Wehrmacht, this could suck, or could be interesting. Ridley is very hit or miss. There are many myths about the battle of Britain; films like these are ironically historian's best hope of educating the masses, ergo there is no hope.

Absolutely, I personally love Exodus Gods and Kings and enjoyed Robin Hood too.

Maybe Sir Ridley is a Nexus-7. No termination date.

I don't know how long we have with him.

Who does?

Poor Nazis! So mistreated by filmmakers...

It'll be about the Battle of Britain - a historical event about which there haven't been too many movies recently. Nazis just happen to be the villains, out of necessity.

I don't remember "been there done that" criticisms when Tarantino announced IB.

You can never have more films about the Battle of Britain & The Blitz.
Looking forward to this immensely.

Exactly.

It's like Hollywood thinks that WWII and the Vietnam war are the only two wars in the history of mankind. It's just as bad as how many useless documentaries there are about Hitler and the Nazis. It's like a new one pops up every 6 months. There is NOTHING more to talk about, it's got to be the same recycled bs in each new doc, much like Shark Week.

For me it's not necessarily about the Nazis but about it being yet another WWII film as if we haven't been given enough of those over the decades.

With Tarantino at least we knew we would be getting something vastly different and he delivered on that front.

I don't understand why some people are like this.

If a person is fed up with a particular subject, then just don't watch movies or read books about it. It's perfectly valid to express disappointment with an announcement, just as it is natural to express excitement. But to act like a subject as vast and resonating as a world war should be left alone by storytellers is a bit too much.

I've never seen any movies about the Battle of Britain - having my favorite filmmaker make one about it is great news. I'm sure other people will be interested - the last famous movie about this particular topic was made what, almost half a century ago?

Whether you like it or not, WWII is arguably the defining event of the last century - there are literally thousands of different events that defined it, wich can be interpreted by a multitude of different perspectives. It's not like each and every WWII movie is about the same thing.
