Default Sound drops out during quiet moments

I had a 55" Vizio which was connected to a Vizio soundbar. I had a DirecTV receiver hooked into HDMI 1 and a Phillips blu-ray player in HDMI 2. I recently upgraded to a 58" 4K Vizio and left everything hooked up as is on the new TV. The DirecTV receiver and whatever I am streaming on works perfectly soundwise, but when I watch a blu-ray, the sound cuts out during quiet moments of a movie, especially between dialogue, somerimes even cutting out low background music as well. I have tried every setting I can think of, but nothing helps. It doesn't cut out as bad if I turn off the soundbar and use the TV speakers. I tried switching the blu-ray player to HDMI 3, but it did no good. I already bought a new high speed HDMI cable to see if that would fix it, but it did not. The soundbar is old, but it works perfectly if I am streaming or watching DirectTV. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

You've bought a high speed HDMI cable that you probably didn't need. You should return it, and get a refund, if it didn't resolve the problem, and use the same cable that you had before. Do you have another Blu-ray or DVD player that you can connect to your TV, as a test to see if has audio dropouts? Another question, were you having this issue with the audio before you got your new TV?

I do not have another player to test right now. And, no, the audio was working great on all aspects with the old TV.

What do you have the audio settings at on the TV, ( and the model number because I want to look up the owners manual) because it could be a setting that need to be changed for a certain component because, the factory settings are not always accurate, depending on the equipment that its used.

The model number is V585-JO1. I have been fiddling with the audio settings in every way I could think. Right now the Surround Sound is set at Virtual: X, Volume Leveling is off, Digital Audio Out is set at Digital, Analog Audio Out is set to Variable, the Dialogue Enhancer is off, and eARC is set on. I also turned off the Eco Mode in the systems settings. Any advice would be appreciated. The DirecTV sound is perfect and any streaming channels I watch do not have any audio drop out. It is only when watching blu-rays and it does not matter which HDMI port I use.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I have a similar audio clipping problem on my soundbar attached to my Samsung UE43BU8000 TV.

Essentially, a movie plays fine when there's sound such as talking, music, explosions and so on, but when there's quiet - background traffic sound, hiss on an old movie, general low level ambience - the audio completely cuts out and only returns when someone speaks or there's a definable action creating sound. It's incredibly frustrating, rendering sound from 1930s-70s movies unwatchable - removing hiss and background sounds from ticking clocks to very low music - and hitting even modern films with denser sound mixes, if the sound is quiet. It ruined my viewings of The Godfather, Carlito's Way and Polanski's Macbeth - anything with decent dynamic range. I have to watch my Columbia Noir sets on a different TV. It sounds like some sort of built-in noise gate or hiss reduction feature. If you have to deal with people in call centres where they have a filter set to cut out background noise, you'll get what I mean.

I know my way around the kit, because of my job, so I've tried two soundbars, Bluetooth, optical and HDMI-ARC with HDMI 2.1 cables, all the available settings, factory resets etc. This is clearly an issue with the television itself.

I went on to the Samsung community website and laid out the problem and tagged it correctly. I received a couple of replies making suggestions and I was having a bit of back-and-forth with other people who had the same problem... then the moderator, without commenting, removed my tags and buried the topic, unsolved. Since then, quietly, I've been blocked from posting on the community. No one's said anything: I just can't post or reply on there - I get told either I can't reply to the topic or I never clicked the verification link when I signed up. Since I've already posted, I clearly did click the link.

Samsung's 'party line' is that this is an issue with soundbars, even though I've come across multiple posts from people who are having this issue. Whenever another post pops up on the subject on the Samsung community, the moderator blames the soundbar, marks the discussion solved and shuts it down.

I'm absolutely livid. £600 for a TV is not something I can afford to spend lightly - I don't have the kind of money to spend thousands. I had a fantastic Samsung 32" HD TV from 2009-21 and never had any issues, so I stuck with the brand and the soundbar issue online wasn't obvious until I discovered it. Had the issue come to light sooner, I'd have sent back the TV.

I'm cautious about getting involved in service menus, but I'm sure this either a faulty board issue or a firmware issue. Samsung clearly knows about this problem, because they're actively suppressing discussion on the subject.

I see that the Visio issue was fixed either by people going into the service menu or turning off 'audio levelling.' The Samsung TV has no such options. Indeed, you can't even run an audio delay for Bluetooth headphones.

Has anyone else had this issue on any TV with soundbar? It seems to me that the removal of analogue audio outputs is a major issue: I'm sure if I was able to use those, I'd be fine.
