I...had never heard about that fuss. But then, I never watched Felicity so there's that. I liked her response to that on Seth Meyer's show 8 years ago. When asked what advice she would give her younger self, she said:

“Your life is going to be so exciting, but whatever you do, don’t cut your hair short during the second season of Felicity,” she said.

“No, I’m serious. People will freak the hell out. You’ll get hate mail. You’ll even get death threats. But, gradually, your hair will grow back and your fans will forgive you, but you will never — and I repeat never — forgive your fans.”

It was a big deal at the time because her lioness hairstyle had become such an iconic/signature look and the haircut being so short was quite a drastic change to her appearance. It was incorporated well in the storyline though as she did it on impulse while reeling from a breakup, but it took awhile to get used to the change. It was definitely blown out of proportion by those that claimed it negatively impacted the show.

I love Felicity and The Americans. Still need to check out the Diplomats. I had intended to start it last year but a Buffy rewatch got in the way and I haven’t gotten around to it yet. But now I’m reminded.

I think the fact that I had heard about "The Rachel" haircut at the time (despite not watching Friends until years later) but had never heard about this "controversy" speaks to the audience size of an NBC hit sitcom vs. the audience size of a top WB program at the time.

No doubt it was big news to the fan base (and peripherally to people close to them). But it completely passed me by at the time...

And yes, the plot point makes perfect sense. I've lost count of the number of women I've known who radically alter their hairstyle after a break up...

the diplomat is pretty solid so far. reminds me a bit of madam secretary, but with more personal drama. russell and sewell have good chemistry, curious to see how janney fits in

They did the same thing for Night Agent. Announced a season 3 before even S2 debuts.

Meanwhile they cancel other shows after they've only been available a month.
