Default Family Matters Questions

1. Are the episodes native HD or just SD upscales?

2. Are they unedited?

I recently rewatched the entire series on Max and they are MOSTLY true HD masters. I say mostly because there are entire episodes and some scenes throughout the seasons that are upscales.

The scenes throughout the series that are upscales are ones with transitions, vfx shots, anything that needed wires removed. I'm guessing for all that they either couldn't recreate them or just didn't want to do the extra work to do so.

The SD upscaled episodes, I'm assuming the negatives were lost or damaged to the point where they couldn't be saved. I haven't seen the show since I was a kid so I can't give you an answer about whether or not they're edited lol

Man, that is really unfortunate. You wouldn’t happen to remember which ones would you?

If I’m understanding you correctly, the native HD episodes with SD content in them (NOT the episodes that are entirely SD), have special effects removed? Is it incredibly obvious and/or did they create different effects to replace the removed ones?

Was mostly asking because the Season 4 DVD originally came with the syndicated/edited masters. Even when WB replaced them, according to Wikipedia, the episode Number One with a Bullet was still the syndicated/edited master. If you have/know any one/any one else reading this, can compare the corrected Season 4 DVD to the streaming versions to see if they are all unedited, I would be grateful.

It looks like watching this show in the best quality will be a bit of a headache.

In any case, thank you for the very prompt reply.

I had the show playing while I worked on my laptop so I couldn't really do an in depth watch, just paid enough attention to notice these things overall. I did notice that in later seasons the SD upscales got better so I'm assuming they had a better source for those moments. But you could still tell the difference

No, the vfx are still there just they edited in SD upscales with the true HD scenes. So it will be true HD, then when the scene cuts to a VFX shot it would be in SD. Same thing with transitions like when it does a ripple effect into a dream sequence.

Wish I could do more to help but I don't have the show on DVD to do a better comparison
