Default Panasonic DMP-BD60/80x and freezing issues

Hi all, I am writing this as speculation of why people have had so many random freezing issues with this unit, not to say i'm having issues. Anyway as someone who has technical experience with computers and repair, I decided to crack open my panasonic player as the warranty is done just to see what type of parts a blu-ray player has inside. I noticed that even when powered on, the fan in the unit doesn't automatically turn on with the unit. Does anyone know if the fan is temperature controlled or is supposed to run all the time? It feels like even after being on several hours and closed up watching a blu-ray disc the fan still isn't running. I am wondering if many freezing issues people have had with this unit are overheating issues and not firmware alone. Or were they strictly firmware related. I'm inclined to think they could have been both if the fan doesn't run correctly. Does anyone maybe have more insight on this? I just thought it strange the fan didn't constantly run at some speed while the unit is powered on. Anyway the unit is closed back up now and continues to work fine. this was just an interesting observation I saw.
