Default Hud (1963) Available from Shock

I thought it would be worth starting a thread for this.

I flicked through the Blu Ray and it is an big improvement over the DVD. However, there is no chapter menu so you need to fast forward through the entire film if you want to view a particular part.

The negative is that at about the 62 minute mark in a scene between Paul Newman and Brandon De Wilde the film looks like a mesh was covering the camera lens. It only lasts about a minute or so and its not the first time I've seen this in a Blu Ray of a black and white film (Stardust Memories & the first UK release of The Battle of Algiers have the same problem).

I checked the same scene on the Australian DVD of Hud and it was not present - thought I've never seen that mesh look on any DVD ever.

Its a slight annoyance but certainly not a deal breaker.

The Shock is OK I think it needs a fortune spent on it to get it where it deserves picture-wise.

Maybe Newman's estate has control of that.

A great American film like this needs a lot of love.

It's coming from Criterion, a new restoration. No one should go near this release.

Looks like I'll be holding off on this one. Bit the bullet for Jennifer Jones' Carrie (blind buy), since there was no word on that coming here anytime soon, but this deserves better.
