Margot Robbie to produce ‘blockbuster’ Monopoly movie with Hasbro

Barbie star and producer will return to world of films based on toys with project based on the much-loved board game

Margot Robbie isn’t done playing games.

Fresh off her success as a producer and star of “Barbie,” Robbie is creating a Monopoly movie through her production company, LuckyChap. They’ll be joining forces with the game’s parent company, Hasbro Entertainment, and Lionsgate, which owns the rights, to bring the classic board game to film. The companies announced the news at the CinemaCon conference in Las Vegas. “I could not imagine a better production team for this beloved and iconic brand than LuckyChap,” Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Chair Adam Fogelson said in a news release Wednesday. “They are exceptional producers who choose their projects with great thought and care and join Monopoly with a clear point of view.”

Daley/Goldstein made Game Night, so they at least have some board game movie experience with positive results.

It's possible this movie is about the controversy with the Monopoly Win a Prize game from McDonald's, where the contest was rigged so you'd never win the big prize. Something like that. McDonald's got into trouble with that one for awhile.

If so, reminds me of The Founder, where Michael Keaton founder character kind of steals the restaurant from the original inventors/creators/fast food set up, and turns it into a mass franchise monopoly set up in every city. The big M golden arches. Now diminished into a square gray box boring building that looks more like Starbucks (in the 2020s).

The above is unlikely, but I'd be interested as that is more exciting than a bored game.
