Default Inside Out 2 (2024)

Announced at D23.

The sequel will pick up when Riley is a teenager, likely dealing with all the messy complicated emotions that comes with adolescence. The movie will also introduce some new emotions, beyond the five we saw in the first movie. This time, Kelsey Mann, story supervisor on Monsters University, will direct the movie with a script from Inside Out screenwriter Meg LeFauve. Bill Hader and Mindy Kaling are reportedly not returning as Fear and Disgust.

Was Pixar "better than this" when they did Toy Story 2, which was just their third movie? Sequels are not inherently bad things, you know.

I feel they're kind of the most easily replaceable characters to be fair.

Replaced with different characters, or different actors?

Both really, but I could see Fear and Disgust having morphed into different emotions, replacing them.

I'll meet in the middle and say it was.... good. Being a fan of the first film and waiting 14 God forsaken years, I was disappointed that it was just a character swapped retread of the first film.

The villain's motivation was completely different.

Well yeah, I didn't say it was a carbon copy verbatim of the first film, but you can't deny that it's overall plot structure is exactly the same. It's classic sequelitis.

I didn't mind that. I still had a fun time.

Well yes, I did say it was good, I was entertained but at the same time just bummed they didn't take it to more fresh places especially after such a long wait. It is possible to enjoy and be disappointed at the same time. It's like, "oh damn, well that's unfortunate, ah well" and just goin with the flow afterward.

What kind of "fresh places" were you thinking of? I mean, superheroics were still technically illegal at the end of the first movie.

That, and the it has one of the worst written vilians I've seen in a while.
I won't go into it, but they would've had better chance of getting what they wanted if they did absolutely nothing!
(actually, they already had what they wanted, and their actions helped accomplish the opposite. )

I don't think Incredibles 2 is terrible or anything, and I never thought the first one was all that great IMO, but it felt like a Disney cheapquel with a bigger animation budget.

At least Inside Out has more sequel potential than most PIXAR & WDAS movies, so I'm cautiously optimistic.
I'm more excited for Elio & Wish.

Many people expected it to take place years later, kind of like TS3, with an older Bob and Helen and the kids all grown up.
That would've been more interesting than what we got IMO.
