Default amazon.co.uk stupid or desperate... you choose

Is it just me or is this just plain stupid. I received this e-mail this morning from amazon.co.uk:-

Quote:
Greetings from Amazon.co.uk,

We've noticed that customers who have purchased or rated Master And Commander - The Far Side Of The World [Blu-ray] [2003] have also purchased Elizabeth - The Golden Age [HD DVD] [2007] on HD DVD. For this reason, you might like to know that Elizabeth - The Golden Age [HD DVD] [2007] will be released on 25 February 2008. You can pre-order yours for just £17.98 (28% off the RRP) by following the link below.
And then I get a list of other HD-DVD titles.

Is this stupid, or just desperation to clear out their stock of a now dead format???

It's just automated profiling software trying to make a guess at what it might be able to sell you. I doubt human intervention is involved.

Exactly, it's an automated system so I wouldn't read too much into it, though maybe they should filter it according to format. I bet with their new "endorse Blu-Ray policy those HD-DVD recommendations will be going the way of the dodo soon.

Ahhm, did you actualyy read the comment? It says 'We've noticed that customers who have purchased...have also purchased ...

Believe it or not, some people who bought BDs actually bought HD DVDs too

Actually it says "...customers who have purchased or rated..."

Regardless, it's the same moronic software that asks me, when I'm standing at the gas pump in the pouring rain, whether I want a car wash with my purchase.

Well, I forgot that there are some idiots who rate a product they didn't actually buy

I'm sure it's written into their profiling software to cross-sell as much remotely related goods as they can.

Do we actually need a poll for this question?

C'mon.
