Google play codes from a different country no longer redeemable?

Previously, there was a workaround to switch the google play website to a different region, to allow you to redeem a GP code from that other country into your account.

i.e. go to https://play.google.com/store?gl=CA to redeem a Canadian code,
https://play.google.com/store?gl=UK to redeem a UK code, etc

This no longer seems to work. You can still view another country’s GP store - the current weblink to do this would be in the format:
https://play.google.com/store/movies?gl=CA etc

However if you then try to redeem a code it says “This code cannot be redeemed from your country”

SO BEWARE IF BUYING CANADIAN CODES, ETC.

If anybody knows of an updated workaround please kindly let us know.

Update: good news, a workaround is now available again

Add the country location using the format "?gl=US" , or CA, etc, to the end of this URL:

https://play.google.com/redeem

So to redeem a US GP code into a UK google account, go to: https://play.google.com/redeem?gl=US

Has anyone used this recently to know if it still works? Got a Lionsgate US code and I’m UK-based so iTunes won’t work, don’t wanna redeem on Google Play in case I can’t get it and need to sell
